  1. I am trying to convert a divx avi to SVCD. Virtual dub says
"Virtual Dub has detected improper VBR Audio encoding in the source AVI file"

I extracted the audio with VD to a wav file and then converted to svcd with TMPGEnc but the a/v is slightly out of synch.

Where do I go from here??

Hey dude. I have been trying to get a response about audio syncing problems for a good week now. Good luck. I am stumped too.
You want the truth?!? You can't handle the truth!

  3. You mentioned saving off the VBR-encoded audio track to a .WAV file, which is good, but you didn't mention whether you reencoded it with a constant bitrate?

Whenever VirtualDub has given me that notice, I'll create a .WAV and then reencode to a PCM .WAV file (taking the opportunity to normalize and/or clean up the audio as needed) before bringing it into TMPGEnc.

CAVEAT: I have no idea if this will affect the sync issues you're having. For me, the audio just cuts out completely after a couple of minutes if I don't reencode.

    Cheers!

  4. So what software would I use to re-encode the audio to a constant bitrate?

I'm having this exact problem with the divx rips of the Fellowship of the Ring DVD screener. The problem so far is that Virtualdub chokes on the file. I'm still trying various decoding operations to see if I can strip it all out, join the file, remux it, and then re-encode it to play properly. I already rebuilt the indices with divfix, and the files play perfectly... nay, BETTER than perfectly, with both WMP and the Divx player. I mean just fantastically crystal clear. I've been impressing friends and family with it. But so far, no joy on re-encoding so that I can make some DVDs.

I am definitely listening if anyone has some light they can shed on this problem...

  6. when that happens to me virtualdub automatically fixes it, i just go ahead and save the wav as a direct stream copy and then im left with a proper wav file. depending on how variable the original wav was, it MAY create some out of sync audio, not much u can do about that though, and i have to say its never been off far enough for me to tell, usually in milliseconds

  7. Back to my question please. What software would I use when VD says to recompress the wav file with a constant bitrate encoder?

  8. I save the audio as AC3 even if it is an MP3 and then I convert it with BeSweet to an mp2 file. Why AC3? Because I found that saving to a wav file you get crappy audio Ex. high pitched scratchy audio. But if I saved to AC3 and then convert it to mp2 the results where much better.
