Audio sync problem

Whenever I rip a DVD and try to make a VCD, I always have problems with getting the audio synchronization. The audio never matches the video on the MPEG file. What can I do about this?

You didn't mention the encoders you are using. People have often reported that TMPGEnc creates this so-called un-sync effect. The solution is to split the audio and video apart (de-mux) after encoding and using BBMPEG to put audio and video stream back together again (mux).

This may not be the whole thing involved here... though it could be...

I just ran across a DVD that, when ripped, didn't begin the audio track until a full 6.750 seconds into the movie! So when I ran it thru DVD2AVI, it started the audio rip when it found audio, not when the movie started! Luckily, I was able to apply -6750ms delay in TMPGEnc, all is now well.

I think TMPGEnc is actually a good SOLUTION to the delay problem, but for better compatabilty with standalones (as far as synch drifting, etc.) you might want to do a normal demux with TMPGEnc, remux with bbMPEG, but as for the encode itself TMPGEnc seems to work OK for me...
