  1. Hi.

I have a question and I really hope someone can help me.
I live in Brazil, and I have this capture card: Pinnacle Studio DC10+.
The problem is that our color system isn't NTSC or just PAL. it's PAL-M.

I am unable to capture stuff in PAL-M.

And mostly of the stuff i want to capture is PAL-M. So, is there any software that i can use to capture it in PAL-M? or will I have to buy an external conversor? I dont mind to buy one since it works. So, any idea where can i get one?

    thanks
    Daniel

  2. I think if you record into NTSC, it will work fine.

I had some ntsc tapes that my vcr recognised as PAL60 format. I used virtualdub to capture them with an aver studio card (b878) and latest btwdm (b878 wdm) drivers. Hope this helps.

    Boa sorte

  5. Don´t spend your bucks ...work with NTSC ... almost same quality but big compatiblity with any DVD player (Gradiente , Philips ,Philco, CCE, Panasonic, LG ,...). If you capture TV shows ,soap operas or other craps , do it with NTSC . This means 29.97 fps and NTSC standard resolutions.
    I do this way...

PAL M is not NTSC or even an hybrid format it is a PAL based format using a different colour sub carrier 3.575611 Mhz with some characterises of NTSC i.e 525 lines and 30Hz

If you capture card has a Brooktree fusion 878A or 878 chip you could try the following drivers http://sourceforge.net/projects/btwincap

Failing these you either need to buy a capture card for you country or a multi standard VCR

    or a standalone converter

  8. Hi,

If the hardware doesn't handle the PAL-M standard there's no way without loosing quality to capture with a board with only NTSC.

A board, easy to find, that captures in problably any standard is the cousin board PCTV from Pinnacle (brazilian version). I guess for general use it has enough quality and costs less than US$100,00 in Brazil. It has S-VHS input and RCA. I use to capture at 720x480 very easy. It uses the Booktree 878

Believe me, at the cost of a color converter you can buy the PCTV.

Aside people blame the PAL-M standard, in analog way it's the best color system. European variants use 50Hz refresh rate that can cause flicking. With M frequency standard, PAL-M doesn't flick and have soberb colors.
