  1. I have a ATI AIW RADEON 32 MB RAM, which I of couse have one little problem with (if it can't get fix, i'm gonna sell the card..)

If a screen comes up, that's mostly white (let's say that's 100% contrast), then a few sec. later the whole picture gets darker (now only at 80% contrast).
After a few more sec. it gets normal again...

I really don't know how else to say this...

It happens when using the comps. and S-video inputs (I have not testet it yet with the TV-Tuner, since I really don't want to use that ever.)

It does not start to loop the picture or anything like that.
It's fra a S-VHS video I get the signal, and I had a AV Master card, which I did not have any problems with (execpt that it died )

What is the data input (DVD/Movie) if it is the error could be a form of Macrovision (I know of at least three, one of which is changing the picture contrast). You need to disable macrovision on your card or go to radio shack / Fry's and by a signal stabaliser to defeat the macrovision.

I've seent his one before.... I'd definitely guess macrovision. I seem to remember one of the variants screwing with the AGC (automatic gain control) which would do what he is saying.... The video stabilizer is the best way to go..... Its not jus the AIW card...quite a few cards have the same issue....just that the AIW is probably the worst with macrovision, though I seemto remember hearing that there were drivers that disable the macrosovion detection on that card but only under win2k... If anyone has a link to these drivers, please respond to this post, I could use them myself and any search for macrovision and aiw on any site turns up hundres of hits

  4. I would normaly also think that this is a Macrovision problem...but...

The thing is that this light then a little darker thing, is only happingen when the video signal contains a VERY white picture....

It goes away when it's a more "normal" picture...argh I really hope you understand this..

I can easyly record whole movie's or TV-Series, but if a TV station have breaks and then some stupid advatising is using alot of white, the card turns down the contrast....

Souldnt the Marcovision be in the movie/Tv-show?

  5. I think I understand what you are talking about. I would suggest contacting ati if the card is still under warentee and see if you could get this one replaced or repaired. It shouldn't do that.

  6. Try using the same source and connect it directly to your tv and watch for the same behavior. It might be your source machine (VCR/DVD) clamping down the white level not your capture card creating the problem. Good luck
