  1. Hi I've encoded a movie interlaced but I've chosen the wrong field order. Is there a way to swap fields in a mpg without reencoding the whole movie? I've tried restream by choosing top field first but there wasn't any difference. Please help.

  2. The answer is no. You have to re-encode your video stream.

You can change the field order by using either EasyChanger (part of the Darim MPEG encoder). There is a trial version at their website and EasyChanger is included in the trial. I don't remember the website but do a search and I think you'll find it. I also think (haven't tried it myself) that you can change the field order with pulldown.exe. There is a GUI somewhere and I think that you can get to the right place from the Tools section.

  4. I have te same issue, but with my HD recorder. The broadcast I recorded from has the wrong field order. Any updates on this, without re-encoding.

I remember comparing two MPEG2 files in the past, exactly the same encodes but only with different field order. I think the ony difference was a hex $80 and something like a hex $c0 every few hunderd bytes.
It should not be that hard to write a program for that....

  5. I am checking out ReStream that seems to be able to do the job. It changes values from $14 and $94. Have to try it out on a television to see if it works though.

Restream or DVD Patcher will do the job
