  1. First off, this is my first post here. I already tried a search but came up with like 200 pages non-relavant topics! If there is a previous post on this, !'m sorry. I gave up after looking through like 20 pages!!

Anyways, my problem is with the encoder programs. All i want to do is to be able to burn the AVI's I have downloaded. I tried all the how-to's on this site(divxtovcd, newbie guides..) they all help but only to a certain point.

I just cant get tmpgenc to finish encoding anything. It only goes to about 2 mins into the file then locks my system up. Ive tried it with like 10 different files an the samme thing happens.

I tried separating the audio and video, running error checks and divxfix. No errors ever come up. My system just freezes up when I start to encode to mpeg. This is the only problem I have. I can burn the partially converted files fine and they look great. I just cant get the programs to work through a whole AVI without having to rebot my computer 100 times!

If there's anyone out there with a similar problem or can help me in any way I would really appreciate it!!!!!! This is really starting to piss me off!!!

    Hi

Well there could be lots of reasons, but I guess people can only give the normal reasons for lockup.

    Perhaps they will help. ?

First of all the AVI must be perfect, any bad frames and you will have problems, so you need to scan the AVI with Vdub, if necessary save out another file using streaming.

TMPGEnc, Next is the DirectShow filters, setting them higher will solve a few problems. Options > Environmental settings > VFAPI Plug-in > right click the direct Show and select higher priority.

Make sure you have the latest release of TMPGEnc, Defrag your hard drive, try to have source and destination on different drives. Stop other programs from running on start-up.

    If your using XP, "Don't"

I'm sure others will chip in with anything else..

  4. OK, now I just tried to scan it on vdub and every time i start the scan, my computer locks up. It get done about a 1/4 of the file then just stops. I tried like 3 different avi's and they all do the same thing. They're not real crappy ones either. I thought they were pretty good quality.

Could the problem really be XP? I never had any problems with the os yet, that is until I started to try to learn how to make vcd's.

  5. Start new project with Tmpgenc and close both Tmpgenc and VirtualDub.

Reinstall HD IDE Drivers (e.g., 4in1 drivers, IDE minidrivers--assuming you have a VIA MoBo). Reinstall the correct DIVX drivers (versison 3.XX, 4, or 5). Reboot. Try frameserving again to Tmpgenc.

I'm not guaranteeing success but its worth a shot. All my Tmpgenc+VirtualDub crashes were solved by reinstalling AVI drivers and IDE HD drivers, granted I don't mess with DIVX encoding too much just other types of AVI files.

Yep, the new Vdub does this sometimes, I use "vdub-mp3-freeze.exe" download from Kazza, its a hacked version of Vdub1.4 and makes a log of the bad frames you have, it does sound like your AVI's have bad frames.

Even the good quality AVI's can have bad frames "Added" during download. Try vdub-mp3-freeze.exe see if that helps.

What a guess ? XP, some love it some hate it..... And it could be the OS that is the problem. I recon Microsoft has a anti-DivX built in

  7. I bet money KingJohn is right - I bought XP for $106 and I use the CD as an expensive coaster. I installed all updated hardware, and drivers and my machine STILL is not right after XP and then a total HD wipe, I never got to encoding video cause I had too many other problems. I think Microsoft wants to own every function we execute on a PC one operating system at a time.

Well the problem with XP, its not an upgrade of previous versions, how many versions of Windows 95 were there before it was any use (4) Windows 95C was the best. Same with 98, 98SE is great the first release was no so good. I'm sticking to this until such times XP actually works, or at leased the whole world has produced software that updates XP when it needs it

  9. first few times ive tried using tmpgenc same thing happend, i found that defragging the drive(s) helps quite a bit. And also with a newer version of tmpgenc helps too!
