Not really like a dvd, but close to that. Currently this seem to be the most frequent question. Search the forum for "chapter", "VCDImager", "xml" ,"videopack", "I-Author" or "vcd2tk"

Its easy. Each chapter has to be a seprate file. Using nero, put them all in there in order. Then on every file, right click, select properties. Put 0 where it says 5 seconds.

sega, if your dvd player play that multi tack VCD without a noticable pause between the tracks, you are a happy man. For most people this method does not work. When I say chapter, then I mean one track with several entrypoints. This can not be done with Nero.

I'd be interested in this too... usually even in DAO mode, there can be a somewhat noticable changing of tracks (Even when you set the spacing to 0 sec)... is there some straightforward way of making it so you click "1" on your keypad and it goes to scene 1, click "2" and go to 2 and so on?

    I'm all ears!

Side question: Does simply running it through VCDImager (or a frontend) eliminate track gaps using DAO? Then burn the .bin in NERO? I don't care about menus, just want to either let it run all the way thru, or have entrypoints I can skip between.

or, it is more complex than that?

  6. Just out of curiousity...is it possible to set the track gaps at -1 in Nero? This could make up for the noticeable gap even at 0 seconds if it were.

  7. lol not laughing at u but the thought of the idea u proposed

a gap of -1 would be telling the player to wait until "-1" seconds has elapsed before it proceeds(scalar not vector value) which would yield an infinite gap...the only way currently to make a "seemless entry point" (which is another word/phrase u should be searching for in the posts) is with VCDimager through XML editing...and Sega if ur DVD player actually does this post the name so I stare in disbelief and run out to the store to see if u know what ur talking about. That's like the god of DVD players if does that and can play svcd's/cdvd

  8. As long as your laughing with me and not at me then it's all good. Actually if you laughed at me...it would still be all good. I didn't think it was possible, but was more or less taking a shot in the dark. I was curious about it. That's why I asked. I'm actually going to attempt to make chapters on an SVCD this weekend. When I (and if) I actually do it, I'll be back w/more questions that everyone can laugh at. LOL

I think this seems to be the most frequent question because it is such an obvious need that I was extremely surprised that Nero etc. did not support this when I started fiddling around with VCD's about 4 months ago.

I want to dub Live gigs from VHS to VCD. Imagine this with pauses between the tracks, or without being able to skip to a track immediatly. It's through this site that I found that XMLing and using VCDimager is the only way. It is a hard but beautiful way. Take a look at the demo CD that was made that shows off all the posibilities !

I think it is time for a "How to" on creating entry points and menus etc. Any takers ?? Haha, well I will give it a shot because I am still at the starting point !

check the vcdimager website for sample XML's that might give u a good start point on entrypoints, and search the post for help with I-frames Closed GOP and the such u dont make the sam mistake others have.

Image ur player coming to a complete halt tho after every track so that it could play backwards for a sec tho.......well I guess that's not that funny anymore, well it was when I first thought of it. Um Ok or image ur player just spinning waiting for this -1 to come around.

dammit nevermind this just isn't funny. well I guess since it's not funny I dont have to worry about someone laughing with/at me

  11. What if you split the video up into separate files, then put a menu in using nero. This way you could select a which chapter you wanted to see.

Just adding separate MPEG files will achieve this on a VCD, whether Track-At-Once or Disc-At-Once. What we're talking about here is if you have ONE movie file, how to designate points to skip around the file (like a DVD does with chapters)...

I for one agree that WE NEED TO HAVE A "DUMMIES" guide to making XML/VCDImager entrypoints. It's NOT straightforward at all, and I've even done HTML hand-coding for years!

It'd be so much easier if someone would just post up a tutorial... just a simple "I have one file, here's what you type in to skip to this point, here's what you type in for the next, here's where you need to put it"... Maybe it would stop all the questions?

Hey... maybe even put it on the "HOW TO" section?...

  13. I was thinking...... since I-Author lets you select entry AND exit points couldn't you do this with it? Only problem I see is losing the ability to quickly get back to the main menu (have to use the return function to go to the next chapter automatically). Just a thought.

  14. forget about I-Authors exit points... they get translated to an entry-point into the stream and an associated playing time with a resolution of 1/15secs... the player will have to reposition the laster everytime leave a chapter defined by entry and 'exit' points... which will cause disruption in playback, thus not a seamless playback...

the problems are only those DVD players, which have a poor VCD/SVCD implementation in their firmware... the specs clearly tell that entry points define chaptering points... even without having PBC on the disc...
