  1. I'm trying to convert a SVCD to VCD because my stand-alone player cannot handle them (I can handle it I guess ) The only problem I have is the 2 different tutorials I followed still left me no farther then when I started.

    http://www.vcdhelp.com/tmpgenc.htm

    and

    http://www.vcdhelp.com/mpeg2tovcd.htm

Basically this is a cry (heh no tears ) for help... I'm not sure what to try next... but @ least I have a new coaster set in the making for my new coffee table.

Unless you give some information about the particular problems you encountered, nobody will be able to help.

  3. Umm I got no idea what the problem is thats the only problem... The dvd player just won't read it but PowerDVD has no problems... I'll have to look @ in depth in a bit I guess.

Well, we know as much as you. You looked at 2 forums, and the disc won't play. I could swear there are some stages in between, though.

  5. Is there a way of finding out what a certain problem could be? I've got the panasonic DVD-RV32 That in its self doesn't help me out... but I can imagine why one of the 2 ways I've tried wouldn't work... anyone gotten a SVCD to VCD convert to work (heh)

(yes. thats a retorical question. )

  6. Hi!, try this:

Convert your mpg file to divx using vidomi ( www.vidomi.com), then when you get the .avi file use tmpgenc ( www.tmpgenc.net) use the wizard (itīs easy and secure) and last use nero for burning your VCD.

    I wish you luck.

Of course, or I wouldn't be answering. Did you get the audio and video files after running through DVD2AVI OK? ( d2v and mpa) Did they load into TMPGenc OK? Did you choose the appropriate VCD template? Did you end up with an mpg? Did you burn this with Nero and choose the VCD option? If you did the latter, and Nero accepted the files as legitimate VCD-compatible, you should have ended up with a VCD that plays on (almost) any DVD player. (Same goes for VCDEasy if you chose that route.) Now, i suspect that somewhere along the line, the answer to one of these questions is *NO*. 8)

Crazy idea. This adds an extra encode stage, and subsequent drop in quality.

  9. Think NERO may decode a SVCD source to VCD compliant MPG1 streams. So why all this trouble with multiple recoding?

Because Nero is a good CD-burning prog, but a crap encoder.

  11. But propably better than a double or tripple recoding. Each time encoding you may never gain quality but loose some for sure.

  12. To answer:

Q: Did you get the audio and video files after running through DVD2AVI OK? ( d2v and mpa)
    A: Yes.

Q: Did they load into TMPGenc OK? Did you choose the appropriate VCD template?
    A: Yes.

Q: Did you end up with an mpg?
    A: Yes.

Q: Did you burn this with Nero and choose the VCD option?
    A: No, VCDEasy.

I burned 8 other DiVX > VCD's with Easy... I figured why change... I'll go find Nero and give it a whirl.

    Thanks for the hand holding

I've only used VCDEasy once, so I'm not too familiar with it. If you have used it before successfully, maybe some setting has changed? I never have problems using Nero with anything that TMPGenc has produced. Just remember to choose the VCD option in Nero.
