I have WinXPpro... finally tried to capture from my repaired camcorder (worked fine when I had win989se) and everything except VirtualDub can capture... Ulead Media Studio, ATI Video-IN, Win MOvie maker... but when I try to click on CAPTURE AVI in VDub, it says my video device is already in use... here is a screenshot of the error...

how can I deduce which program, process, is tying up my capture card? Is there anyway to 'safe mode' start but still have Virtualdub capture work (while trying to stop the 'evil' program from starting?)

Does XP recognize your camera when you connect it? My computer brings up a bubble near the right tray when camera is added as "New Device Found". In device Manager the camera should be listed in the device tree also.
Not much help, sorry - I am trying to think if this has happened to me as I did have some problems a week ago. -
Yes, the capture card is recognized... It says Legacy capture though... Only have my programs can access the capture card though...
