  1. i have an 1.5 mpeg file.
    i added subtitlle with winsubmux.
    1. now, if i split the file what happen to the subtittle ?
    2. i used the sample cd that you offering here, and i test it
on my dvd stand alone, i was able to switch the audio but
there weren't any subtittle to switch.
so, it's ok for me to see the subtittle on my dvd standalone ?
or i needed to see subtittle ?
if i was able to switch the audio, i can able to see switchable subtittle ?

    1. Once the subs are added you cannot cut the mpg, at least I do not know of any program which can preserve the subs during cutting. If your encode spans several cds and you want subs then you have to author each disk separately. You may want to start ripping by chapters in your dvdripper and authoring each disk separately. This way you can easily extract the subs just for that set of chapters.

    2. I'm not aware of what the sample contains or how it was authored. What I can tell you is that there are two types of subtitles which svcds can use. Probably the more compatible version is called CVD style subs and the other is simply called SVCD subs. Most dvd players support one or the other so even if the sample svcd contained subs and did not work on your standalone player, it is possible that your player just doesnt support that particular type of subtitle format. If you don't see the subtitles then obviously its not working. You should try authoring your subs in CVD format and SVCD format and see it either works. It also might be a good idea to search for your dvd player in the DVD player compatibility section on this site. Chances are enough people have already run enough tests on your model of player that the conclusions drawn will be pretty conclusive.

All svcd compatible hardware players support dual audio tracks, yet only a minority of players support either style of svcd subtitles. There is no correlation between dual audio tracks and subs.

It is best to rip by chapters and encode only a series of chapters per disk, that way when you rip your subs you can rip just those vobs. This will allow you to easily ensure that your subs are in sync.

If you choose to encode the entire mpg and then cut it then you will have to edit your sub txt file by hand.

What you need to do is find the last words spoken at the end of cd1. Now find the corresponding .bmp file and note its #. Go into your .sub file, just open it in any text editor, and find that #. Delete every other sub reference after that and save it as cd1. Use this to add the subs to disk 1.

Now go back into your .sub file and delete all the sub references you had for cd1. If you have more than 2 cds than again find the last sub reference for cd2 and delete all those after that. Now the problem is that the times will be incorrect. You need to take the total playtime of cd1 and subtract it from each time reference you have for cd2.

For instance, if your first sub on cd2 occurs at the 1 min mark, and your first cd was 1hr, than the sub reference will say 1hr and 1min, when it should really read 1 min.

Just keep repeating this process for each disk and pray that it is all synced in the end. This is a very tedious method, I really recommend you rip the dvd by chapters next time.

One other possibility would be to get a vob cutting program and cut it at the times where your cdrs are cut. Then you can rip the subs from each segment. I have never had much luck with cutting vobs but maybe you will. I believe the best tool for this is probably DV tool.
