I am currently capturing 720X480 Composite video from VHS NTSC using uncompressed avi and converting to VCD. I can fit a little over an hour on an 80Gig Hard drive.
Would a smaller res. be more practical?
I am not willing to use a codec.
I was just wondering if I captured at, 320X480 or 640X480, or any other resolution, would it be just as good for VCD quality?
Thanks, Chad

I do the same, meaning, capturing UNCOMPRESSED then converting to either VCD or DVD. But let's concentrate on VCD.
I found that when I capture at 704x480, it gives me the same results. When I capture at 352x480, it gives me results that I believe is about 99% quality compared to 704/720x480.
Try capturing at 352x480, this should save a lot of HDD space and at the same time capture more time on your 80gig. I also use an 80gig JUST for my capture file with NTFS system.
Good luck.
