  1. I usually use dvd2avi to docode my dvd rips and also the audio to a wav file. Then use tmpgenc to encode to vcd. I am wondering if Besweet encodes a demuxed ac3 audio file from a dvd rip into mp2 with surround sound? Will it have different sound than the wav file would? I don't mean quality, I know tmpgenc lacks good audio encoding but what I mean is surround sound, I see that BeSweet does something with the 5 channel ac3 like putting the subwoofer into the front channels? Will BeSweet encoding an ac3 file into a mp2 then muxed into a vcd mpeg have surround sound unlike the dvd2avi wav file encoded in tmpgenc? Thanks for any help.

Simply, yes Besweet encodes to surround mp2.

Donīt use actual dvd2avi versions for audio. Demux within smartripper or dvd2avi to (delayed) ac3.

Then use BeSweet (with delay setting), and - done.

For mp2 settings: donīt use joint stereo (deletes surround information within mp2) but stereo and use 160 kbps and more (160 for 44.1 and 192 for 48 kHz). below that surround information will be destroyed.

Just curious where you got this information. Ive used a 128 kbps stream before and Pro Logic played just fine.

Simply reading the specs and some testing ...

Mp2 canīt almost hold surround informations in "joint stereo" mode. No problem with "stereo".
Maybe you do a comparison yourself. One stream "joint stereo" and the same stream with "stereo". And try also different bitrates: 112, 128, 160, 192.

This differs also from mp3. There are no surround problems with "joint stereo" in mp3.
