  1. I have captured my video fine and created a MPEG-2 file that I can play on my PC with Video Lan just fine. I used Nero 5.5 to create my SVCD disc and tried to play it in my APEX AD-3201 DVD player, but the audio is way out of sync. I took this SVCD disc and put it in my laptop PC and used WinDVD to play it and it Plays perfectly in-sync. Why then is it out of sync in the APEX 3201?

    Thanks

  2. Something is wrong with the MPEG file format - I have had similar Problems with Ulead Video Studio under "DVD" setting. It will play fine on PC but on DVD Player (Apex 5131) Audio is delayed by 2 seconds. Problem there is the MPEG file that Ulead generated. TMPGenc does not have this problem at all.

Try burning with VCD Imager and enable the "update scan data offsets" option. This should work.

Is your MPEG a SVCD compliant ?? or XSVCD ??

  3. Thank you for your reply. I finaly figured out what is wrong. In Nero if I select "Enable Menu" then the audio is out of sync. If I don't use menus then the audio is perfect.
I love the menus, but the audio is a must.

  4. great catch....what version of nero?

  5. Your problem is not likely Nero - I have had this exact problem and it was the MPEG file format. Turning off the menu is allowing some non-standard file format to work. I suppose there may be a bug in the nero software but I have not had this problem.

  6. I have noticed a problem with the Apex 3201 I just purchased as well. I have been using the DVD2SVCD studio to back up DVDs. The problem seems to be associated with the title picture that is placed on the first cd. If I use DVD2SVCD and the finished SVCD product results in more than one cd, the second cd plays fine on the 3201...no audio sync problems. The first cd is a half second or less out of sync (audio delayed). I have no problem playing them in sync on the DVD player on my computer or on other stand alone machines. I have tried the Apex 600a and also a Pioneer stand alone.

  7. FINALLY!!! SOMEONE WITH MY PROBLEM!!! WOOHOOO!!!!

    Here is what I did:
    1. Using SmartRipper 2.41, ripped the big lebowski to the hard drive
    2. Using DVDx 2.0, encoded it to SVCD (MPEG2) format
    3. Tested the resulting mpg with my REALmagic Hollywood+ decoder card/software - video/audio sync is beautiful
    4. Using Nero 5.5.8.2, created an SVCD

(side note, Nero wasn't happy that apparently i had used 23.97fps but i chose to ignore this ... i really don't want to re-encode it in 29.97 because it will take another 11 hours...why so long??)

    5. Played it in my Apex 500w -> video/audio sync is TERRIBLE. but damn, the quality of video on the SVCD is amazing... still have the 2 second delay though.

    any suggestions??

  8. Your Problem is your frame rate. If you encoded 480x480 then it Must be 29.97 - if it is NTCS. 24 FPS is an invalid video rate although some players will play this by doing the 3:2 Pulldown.

If your audio delay is fixed all the way through the do a split and re-mux with TMPGenc and use the audio gap correct to compensate for the 2 second delay. This might work in your case.

see, that's what i don't get...the final mpeg is perfect. the svcd even plays perfectly on my cd-rw drive. i don't understand what is making it out of sync on the dvd player. i also have little experience with correcting audio gaps in TMPGEnc.

are you saying that it is playing correctly on the computer because my DVD app is adjusting to work with the 24fps?? and that my standalone cannot compensate for this?? i did accidentally encode the damn thing at 24...i remember nero saying i did. now i will have to devote another 12 hours encoding it at 29.97!!! AAHH

hey man thanks a ton for your help ...

  10. I recently have had audiosync problems with my apex ad3201 dvd player playing svcd's when using menu's. I just wanted to share some info i found, to others with similar problems. The dvd player doesn't like menu still mpegs. It plays them but when they are placed in front of the movie in the video track they create audio sync problems. Here is what I do that seems to work for me, it allows me to still use menus and keeps the audio in sync. First I create a small title screen mpeg with audio or silent audio that is generic and can be used on all my svcds like the svcd logo. Then using vcdhelper or TSCV I load title screen mpeg first. I then load my movie mpeg and insert chapters, and then any still menus after the movie. I direct the first mpeg to time out and go next to the vcd still menu and then through the options selected into the movie. If anyone else is having trouble you might give this a try if you still would like to use menus.
