  1. I have transferred a DV tape to my hard drive (62 min's about 13GB). I want to open it in Vdub so I can edit it, but when I try to open it I get the message.

Could'nt locate decompressor for format 'dvsd' (unknown)

Virtualdub requires a video for windows (VFW) compatible codec to decompress video. Directshow codecs, such as those used by windows media player, are not suitable.

I have installed the nimo codec pack.

I cant see any other codecs on this site that may be suitable. Can anyone tell me which codec I need to use and where I can get it.

  2. You need to install Mainconcept DV codec from http://www.mainconcept.com. It is a commercial codec but
a demo version can be downloaded from their website.

  4. In that case, you might try the following:

Make a new file with notepad and give it any name and make sure it has an AVS extension. On the first line type:

    DirectShowSource("path to your AVI file.avi")

In VirtualDub click on file->open video->select the *.avs file you just created and then manipulate the video as you wish.
