Ok, I'm encoding Batman Beyond: The movie (DVD as source).
DVD2AVI statistics:
4:3, NTSC, Interlace, 29.97fps
I'm trying to encode it the SVCD. Whenever I do, it gives me choppy playback in my standalone. What should my settings be in Tmpgenc?
I loaded the SVCDNTSC template.. could someone tell me what else I should do? IVTC? Inverse 3:2 pulldown?

OK, I found out some stuff.
I encoded a proper mpg. No choppiness.
What I did:
Inverse 3:2 pulldown
Inverse Telecine: 24fps Flicker Priority
Top Field First
A couple questions came up when I did this though. Is there an easy way to find the field order?
edit: nm, I just found this.. how easyhttp://www.doom9.org/mpg/tmpg_procedures.htm#fieldorder

OK, now I found that 2 of the 3 things I did wasn't necessary. I could just use Top Field First and my problem is fixed.
Is there any need for IVTC? Or even Inverse 3:2 pulldown? -
Eheh, you seem quite capable of answering all your own questions.
If you are using IVTC (which will encode only 4/5 frames, saving you about 20% more disc space), select 24fps (flicker prioritized), Automatic (double field adaptation), Deinterlace Threshhold 5. Be sure to encode with 3:2 pulldown on playback.
Do some 30 sec test clips, one with IVTC and one with regular settings and burn them on CDRW to help you decide which one is better for your standalone player. -
Hehehe
Yea, I've been doing DVD rips for a little while, but never came across a problem like this before. Mostly because I only did one dvd rip of an animation film ever. So I'm somewhat familiar with the settings.
And also, a day off of work gives you a lot of time to fiddle and troubleshoot.
Anyhow, thanks for the help! I guess IVTC isn't too important in this situation since the rip is only about 20min long. It's good to know for future reference though. Thanks again.
