  1. Using Pinnacle studio 7. When I am done editing and ready to output my file there are so many codecs to choose from and it drives me crazy. To your expertise, what codec works best for regular "home video" DV footage.

(No, Huffy does not work in pinnacle studio! )

You forgot to tell us what you're going for. File size or file quality. I like sorenson for file size and it looks nice too. Motion Jpeg A works well for quality, but file sizes can get large.

  3. OK.. Sorry. I am old and don't thin too quick.

I think I have mastered all the other stuff so far but what I want to achieve is to output my edited DV footage into an AVi file for best results. I will then convert that AVI file into MPEG2 in TMPGE and burn to SVCD.

The better the quality that AVI can be, the happier I am. (P.S I am not converting ripped DVD movies here, just plain simple DV footage -home movies - of around 15 minutes. )

There are so many damn codecs avaiable and it confuses me. Is there a guide somewhere that help explain this stuff? I have been using the INDEO 5.1 since it can output in to 44.100 khz, just what I need since TMPGE doesn't do a great job converting my 48.000 audio. It stutters. The Pinnacle DV codec doesn't give you the 44.100, I don't know why?

Give Motion Jpeg A a try and see how you like it.

I use the Pinnacle DV codec from Studio 7 and the 32000Hz audio is converted to 44.1 when I encode the audio using TooLame in TMPGenc. I never considered this a problem as I am sure the 32000Hz is what my camcorder is producing, not the codec ,as the audio component is PCM so it is just passing what was produced by the camera - I think !.

If you have sufficient hard disk space then I'd stick with the DV Codec although I noticed that with the most recent patch that there is now an MJPEG codec available, so I will probably give it a try.
