  1. I just ran into a very strange problem with one of the SVCD disc I made yesterday. I have done lots of SVCD without any issue before.
Here is how I got the problem:
    1) encode my AVI to SVCD (I choose the correct field order here) using TMPGEnc 12a (the good old one)
    2) burn the MPEG file as SVCD using Nero.

When I play the disc in my Pioneer DV-333 player, motion scene look very jerky. It looks like I encode with the wrong field order. I swear I chose the right one because I did it wrong the first time and have to throw away one CD-R, then I change it to the correct field order for re-encoding.

Hear me out a little more:
I hit STOP, OPEN, CLOSE: this opens the tray, the close it again
I hit POWER (turn OFF power to DVD player) then POWER again to turn it back ON.
I hit PLAY, this time the SVCD disc plays smootly and motion scenes look as smooth as I expect them to be.
If I hit STOP then PLAY again, the problem sometimes come back !!!

I put a few other SVCD discs (I made months before) and they never exhibits this kind of problem.

    Does anyone know why ?

    Thanks

  2. this used to happen 2 me too...are you sure ur bit rate is not too low in CBR or VBR. i always tried to check the field order and got pissed untilli realized i was using CQ at 65 which make jerky stuff. use VBR or CBr if u already dont and if u do check the bit rate. not sure why it work sometime and sometime don't.

  3. I am quite proficient in making SVCDs (about 50 hours of home video are in SVCD formats, high quality with 40mins per disc). I knew about field order, bit rates, CBR, VBR, CQ_VBR, etc...

This only occurs once, using TMPGEnc 2.53 (or something close) . Being frustrated, I re-encode it again with TMPGEnc 12a (the good old one) and this time it's OK.

Still puzzling about the problem, hope it does not come back again.
