  1. Right, im a totaly newbie to this & a dumb ass!!!! So please bear with me!

    Ive got 13 VCD's on disc, & they all work fine on my pc. But 4 of them wont play on DVD players. Sometimes it just plays as an audio track, other times it just fully doesnt work.

    To get the vcd's to play on my pc I have 2 open up the CD go into the MPEGAV folder, and drag & drop the .DAT file onto my media player then it starts playing fine.

    So is there anything i can do with these 4 discs which wont play on dvd player, to make them work ok. As all the other 1's play. Ive looked at all the folders on the CD's, & they all seem 2 be the same. So I dont no what the problem is really.

    Any help would be great,
    Thanks a lot

    Are these VCDs you made or are they factory pressed CDs?

    1) Not all DVD players will play VCD.
    2) Several DVD players that DO play VCD require that you strictly follow the VCD specs.

    What info do you have about the VCDs?

    gNOME.....

  3. Oh rite cheers........

    No, there not factory pressed, just copied but i dont no what programs were used etc. to create them.

    On my pc I just use Windows Media Player to play them, & there fine. All the disc's are the same make, which is why I dont usderstand why most of the discs work & 4 of them dont.

    On the CD there are 5 folders:
    CDI--->which have: a FNT file, CFG file, APP file
    EXT---> 2 VCD files, A DAT file
    SEGMENT---> Nothing in there
    VCD---> 4 VCD files

    MPEGAV---> 3 DAT files...........which are the 1's I use 2 drag & drop in2 my media player to get them to play.
    This is what I do with each disc.

    Also I tried copying just the MPEGAV folder onto my hard-drive, and tried playing them, & this worked fine, so I dont no what all the other folders are for...........................

    Well my brain is not working full speed @ the moment (lunch time!)

    If some of the discs are playing and 4 don't, I'd hazard a guess that the MPEG files (dat files) are not of a format that your player supports.

    I have a Panasonic RV31 that is very picky about it's MPEGS.

    It will accept ONLT MPEG1 files but as long as they are below 2400kbs it does not mind.

    However it flat out refuses to play VBR files.

  5. I see, so the ones that dont work are just the wrong mpeg format!?

    So can I convert these discs then? If I can, would you point me to the link please, as I havent a clue where I looking really.

    Thanks for your help by the way!!
