  1. I have no problem converting AVI files to VCD withTMPGEnc. This process is relatively fast. The problem is
my output MPEG file. When I play it gives me no VIDEO
    at all, just sound.

    Any help will be appreciated.

This could be a number of things and we need more information from you before we can help.

    For starters

    Which guide are you following?
What format is your source video (DivX, Camcorder DV)?

Unless you have a super computer, conversion from AVI to VCD is almost always painfully slow. Due to the symptons you are seeing and the fact that the conversion is happening "relatively fast" I suspect that the video is not encoding at all.

  3. O.K. My input is a movie AVI file from the Internet. I'm using
TMPGEnc with all defaults. "Relatively slow' means around 15 minutes.
I agree it looks like no video conversion happens at all but I did
check an appropriate box (video and sound).
Finally I solved my problem with VirtualDub. But it took about 10
hours to convert entire film(5 minute for sound decompressing and
    the rest for the video).
I expected to have it much faster with TMPGEnc.
Thanks for your response and trying to help me.

10 hours is a reasonable amount of time for an entire movie using TMPG.

Hey thats what we're here for

Which codec did you use to compress the video in VirtualDub. i.e. What did you select under the Video/Compression tab?

You should continue to perservere with TMPGEnc as it is widely recognised as one of the best MPEG-1/2 encoders available. Make sure that you have the correct DivX codecs installed on your computer and that you have installed the vfapi plugin for TMPGEnc (available from www.tmpgenc.com)

You can use the preview function within TMPGEnc to move forwards and back through the video once a valid file has been entered in the "Video Source" box. This will help you check your source before encoding again.

  6. What codec should I use to compress the video in VirtualDubw?
What is the correct DivX codecs ? I've just downloaded the latest
stuff from DivX site. Not sure about "vfapi plugin" if I have it installed.
    Hope it helps me.
    Thanks again.
