  1. I purchased a few commercial VHS tapes (PAL) mainly music and I wish to grab some songs and make up a compilation VCD or SVCD.

Using either VirtualDub or AV_io I can grab a songs off an Emmylou Harris "Spyboy" tape with no lost frames using VCR to composite in on my Provideo 951

but trying to do the same from Pink Floyd "Pulse", Jeff Buckley "Live", Deep Purple "Come Hell or high Water" and others I get major frame loss no matter what and capture rate drops from 25fps to 15 or less.

I presume it is some copy protection like Macrosvision. Is there anyway around this either hardware or software?

    Thanks

  2. OK,

Without getting into the slippery slope of copyright issues, there is a box you can purchase that sells for about $50. The company advertises in the back of the Electronics Now magazine. I do not know if they have a PAL version, but they say it removes "lines for better playback".

  3. Thanks for taking time to reply. No problem with the slippery slope I paid for and own original tapes.

Subsequent to my posting I purchased a kit from our local electronics store "Dick Smith" called a Video Enhancer and Stabiliser. I will have to resurrect my soldering skills. It "strips off any " piggyback" signal which may be present in the vertical blanking interval leaving a clean standard composite PAL video waveform. Hopefully this will do the trick
