  1. Hi,
I'm trying to learn how to make an XVCD from a VOB that I ripped from a DVD. The tools I have are SmartRipper, DVD2AVI, TMPGenc, VCDEasy, VirtualDub, FlaskMPEG, and Nero which I would use to burn. I've been able to make regular VCDs just fine. My standalone DVD player is a Sony DVP-S360 which can only play VCDs or XVCDs.
What I did was I ripped the first Simpsons Episode off of the Complete First Season DVD. Then I ran it thru DVD2AVI to create the .d2v file and .wav file. However, in TMPGenc I can not figure out how to make an XVCD. I'm guessing I need to make a non standard VCD, but I can't figure out how to increase the bitrate. I'm also guessing I need to convert the ripped VOB from MPEG-2 to MPEG-1 somehow?
I did select NTSC from under the DVD option once (CBR 3000 kbps) and I was able to make a VCD my DVD player recognized, but it was scrambled, but the parts I could see were crystal clear with no sound and there was no motion unless I pressed fast forward
I'm just trying to learn how to take a great quality source and turn it into the best quality VCD I can. Eventually I hope to convert a lot of my VHS stuff to VCDs. Any help is appreciated.
