I have this weird DVD which cannot be recognised by WIn98SE. When I put the disc into my DVD ROM (Hitachi GD-2500) player, all I see is two folders, the audio_ts and video_ts folder. Not surprisingly, Power DVD cannot play the DVD. UNfortunately neither can Smart Ripper 2.34 which I was hoping to use to rip the DVD. By the way the DVD plays fine on a standalone DVD player.
At first I thought that it was a hardware problem ie. something wrong with the DVD ROM. Now my standalone DVD player is one of those which has a DVD ROM drive in it (Raite RDR 202H). So I extracted that and put that into the computer. It was recognised by the computer without problems. Unfortunately when I put the DVD into the player, the same problem occurs....#$!@#
I was playing around trying to get the disk read when I opened the DOD Speed RIpper (I know it is old but I have not got around to deleting it). And wonder of wonders, it showed the files to be ripped. At this stage I still had the Raite DVD ROM in the computer. I took that out and inserted my Hitachi back in. And I found that I could also read the disk.
SO I now know it must be a software issue. The question I have is what does DOD Speed Ripper have that allowed it to read the disk while my WIn98 and Smart Ripper could not read it?
I want to fix it such that both my Win98 and Smart RIpper can read the disk as well
