  1. Hi All!

    I am trying to rip a pal DVD and make it VCD. As I read on this site the best solution for a PAL VCD is DVDx w/Panasonic. Everytime I try to use this procedure I always get an Window error DVDx.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows). Note that if I use DVDx with Server plugin & TMPEnc it works! The Panasonic MPEG1 plugin is latest version
    My sytem runs Windows200 with the latest WinASPI dlded from net.

    Any suggestions???
    Thanks in advance.

  2. You have to use dvdx v1.6 for it to work. v1.8 won't work this way. I only know this because I had the same problem as you. Although by following that guide, you end up having to convert 10mb at a time. From what I've read on this site it's bad for your dvd rom. I tried making dvdx rip the entire movie first before encoding by increasing the mb size under 'Save your dvd drive', but ended up getting a DeCSS error. Does anyone else know how to get around this??? Because reading 'Bakers' posts, he swears by using this method if you're playing the vcd's back onto tv via your pc.
    Cheers

    In input settings untick "use aspi" then set your "save dvd drive" to 480 mb to hard disc, idct to fbu(best quality), tick audio vid synch.#
    Now goto output settings set "export to av"i to rgb 32 , Export settings set the resize to bicubic, in the plugin window make sure multi pass is un ticked no go into plugin settings if ur doing a pal vcd goto the "gop sequence" and choose the 3rd one down this should set SIZE:12 N:12
    M:3 click ok and that should be u all set have fun .....

    I am the guy who wrote that guide I can answer any questions ont it. ANY!!

    @Akaiu
    yes get dvdx v1.6 as it is better anyhow,

    @ PnutButtRjarZ
    thanks for using my name!! Anyway 10mbs SHOULD be enough to save your drive you can increase it a bit more anyway. If you want to rip the dvd frst than get smart ripeer from the toolz section on the left and rip it with that first. Easy as pie.

    @kevstir
    I have no idea where you are going with that cause thats for creating an avi.

    Dvdx v1.6 should not generate this error for any reason!!! Make sure you have followed my guide to the letter.

    Are you trying for ntsc.

  7. Hi Baker,

    I get the same error. Uninstalled 1.8a and the Panasonic Encoder plugin V251, deleted alll the registry keys I could find regarding DVDx.
    Installed version 1.6, checked you're guide several times, but the error is still there (I'm trying to create a Pal vcd, just like in you;re guide):

    Panasonic MPEG1 Encoder:

    Some of parameters are not correct in "Export Movie Settings" panel.
    Invalid Output Image Size
    Output Image size must be 352 x 288 for VideoCD/Pal
    Video Widht and height must be multiples of 16
    Video Widht is out of Range,. (64-1024)
    Video Height is out of Range. (64-1024)

    From what I understand the error message is generated by the plugin, could be wrong though.

    Hope you can help, thanks

    I fail to understand how u think my guide i posted was to make avi's as im using the panasonic pluging which only makes mpeg1's , i have dvdx 1.8 and the panasonic plugin, the settings i posted DO work as i do it every week and sell the vcd's that i produce, as for saving 10meg at a time this overheats ur dvd drive (well it does with mine) so i put it to over 400 (but not over 700) this means ur dvd drive is only working for a few minutes an hour as aposed to every 5 or ten minutes with it set to 10meg.
    If dvdx 1.6 works for u then thats fine but dvdx1.8 does work with my settings ..
    Only trying to help

    Video Widht and height must be multiples of 16
    Video Widht is out of Range,. (64-1024)
