  1. I've been getting ready to convert my video tapes to digital format
and have been trying out different capture programs. I need to
be able to capture straight to Mpeg-1. I've been able to
capture OK with Cineplayer DVR 2.51, but I can't customize
my settings as much as I like. I've also tried Cyberlink's PowerVCR
II v.3 and I like it. One problem however: I can't record audio!

When I'm in live mode, I hear the audio from my VCR just fine,
but when I capture, save, and play the resulting file in Windows
Media Player or in PowerVCR, there's no sound. In Cineplayer,
when I select "What U Hear" as the sound source, it works fine
(but the video quality is cruddy). If I use the same source in
Cineplayer, there's no sound. I've also tried Analog Mix,
which covers the line in jack I normally have my VCR audio
out running into, and I even switched the line in to the mic jack
and tried that as the source w/ no change.

Does anyone have a solution to this problem? The Cyberlink site
is less than helpful. I've checked all my volume control settings
and audio recording works perfectly in every other app I try.

I am running Windows 98SE, and my sound card is a Creative
    Audigy MP3+

    I appreciate any help.
    Thanks,

    Hi,

I was having the same problem until i noticed that every time i changed my preferences in powervcr II 3 Deluxe the source of audio i had selected was changed (line-in). I had to check each time before starting a new recording that the recording sound source was line-in (i click on the volume icon on the system tray and then select options | properties | recording and click on the line-in checkbox and let the application in the background).

    Hope this helps you.

  3. Liam,
Thanks for the reply. My system doesn't seem to change
the recording input on the sly like that, and I've experimented
with selecting different recording source options, with no
    improvement.
If anyone else has any thoughts, I'd appreciate them.
    Thanks again,

Worth, have you applied the patch to PowerVCR II 3 Deluxe?
If not you can find it here:

  5. Hi Liam,
You know, I tried the patch, and for some reason when I use the current version it claims I don't have a capture device! I had to uninstall it and
reinstall the old version before it would work again. Very odd.
