I have noticed somethign ever since I got my LF-D311 DVD-R/RAM drive. I have used two different brands of media (from esbuy.com abd the opticodiscs from Newegg.) Using the software that came with (InstantCD/DVD and also with Nero), it wont allow me to burn a dvd of 4.7gb. The most it will allow me to burn is 4480MB. Is there something I need to do to prepare the dvd to allow me to write the full 4.7GB?
I must admit, that all I have used DVD-R for at this point is high capacity storage of audio files as I condensed my cdr collection quite a bit.
Any help would be greatly appreciated in advance.

It's not really 4.7GB bytes. The DVD forum equates 1000 kilobytes as being 1 Megabyte, not the 1024 that it really is. To them, 4.7 GB is 4700000.
It's false advertising in a sense. -
so 4480 is the max capacity for my dvds? what about programs like neodvd that capture video and encode to 4.7gb? Then im basically screwed or end up trimming frames to fit it under 4.7gb?
