Hi all..relatively new here and to burning etc. so please bear with me. I have a movie file (AVI DIVX rip) that is too long for 1 cd. I have gone through the process of converting it to Mpeg and making it into 2 files but the quality is not as good as the original and in a few places it is out of sync. Is there any way i can just split the original AVI file so i can burn it and not lose the quality i want?.
    Thanks in advance

OK..so I guess what you are saying is that if I want to play the CD on my home DVD player I have to convert it to Mpeg and live with the sync problems and poorer quality?

No. You have to convert to mpg, but that does not have to mean sync problems. You should only have sync problems if the original has sync problems! Done properly, from a decent source, you will not notice the quality difference. All the info you need can be found on this site. One tip, particualrly if you are downloading avis - extract the audio before conversion as an uncompressed wav file. Not doing this is a big cause of sync probs. 8)

I did extract the audio file (Using Virtual Dub) and saved it as a wav. file. I followed all of the directions given on this site exactly as written. I encoded using TMPGEnc . The source file was AVI DivX DVD rip and I watched the movie on my monitor before i transferred it to VCD and the quality was outstanding. But after I did the conversion, the video was still ok but once in a while the audio would be out of sync with the video or the movie would speed up like it was fast forwarding. Is there something i have done wrong?

  6. You dont make it clear in your post but AFAIK the procedure should be avi file, TmpGenc to mpeg file. Split Mpeg. DO NOT split the avi file and convert to two mpeg files.

When you extract the file you must select Audio>>Full processing, or else you will extract a compressed wav. The file you extract should be bigger than the avi it comes from, typically > 1GB. If you have done this then it's a case for the X-Files. 8)
