  1. I'm using TMPGEnc to encode to mpeg. What audio settings should I use? I am using Stereo @ 44100 @ 128kb. I can never get a decent sound through the speakers. Whats a different setting that would sound better but also not take up too much space because I usually encode my video between 1750 and 2250.

    Thanks Keida

If you are playing on your PC you would be much better compressing to DivX. You could then get much better audio quality than 128, and a much smaller filesize. If you are encoding a VCD mpeg at 128 then that is half the recommended bitrate, and certainly not enough for mp2 IMO.

Hmm, thats quite odd that you would have that problem, when I make my svcds thats usually what I will set the audio. There are 3 possible problems, the source of your audio - if you have a audio file that isn't too good sounding to start with, re-encoding it will only make it worse, the speakers - if there is a problem with the speakers like the wires getting not being connected properly etc. this can cause static, and lastly the actual audio decoder - have you tried playing it on different players? ie DVD player AND a computer - i had a player that made horrible pops and squeeks in the audio during credits, but it would play fine on my computer

    Good Luck!

  4. hi, yes I am encoding to vcd for tv. What do you suggest I use for the settings keep it at stereo or change to dual channel or joint-stereo? Should I hike up the biterate all the way to 224 or would I be able to get by with 192 or 160?

The audio in VCD is mp2, which is not as good as equivalent rate mp3. I think you might find 160 acceptable, but 128 is a bit iffy IMO. 128 mp2 is not the same as 128 mp3.
