What does not work, burn to CD-RW, delete the CD-RW or playback?

  3. I have the same exact problem too, I reinstalled my philips and I am using a blank Memorex CDRW 700MB and it keeps on telling me to insert a blank medium. What do I do?

Technically a CD-RW is not a blank medium because it has been DirectCD formatted for use as a rewriteable disc. What you need to do is completely erase your CD-RWs before you can use them as if they're CD-Rs. I use Ulead DVD MovieFactory to erase my CD-RWs. On the final wizard page before burning, it gives you an ERASE CD option. It takes about 20 seconds. I'm not sure what other programs can be used to do this.

Once you've erased the CD-RW, it can be used just like an ordinary CD-R and your burning program should accept it. When you want to re-use it, just erase it again. If you ever want to re-use it as a CD-RW, just re-format it in DirectCD format. It takes about an hour. You can do it simply by right mouse clicking on the drive and selecting Format. The DirectCD wizard will come up and it's a piece of proverbial from there.
