I an interested in downloading/trading using newsgroups/usenet although I have no idea how to connect to or get newsgroups. If someone could please take the time to explain how to connect to, use, and download from newsgroups it would be a big help. Thanks

  2. IS there a good amount of stuff shared on them? And what are the speeds like? I always hear that the speeds are awesome since they come from your ISP's servers, true?

  3. I just went to SMR's newsgroup and only saw 300 listings for Kung Pow. All were like 309KB in size in .RAR format. Is that how they arrive, in 300 pieces!

  4. Hmm... well just about anything and everything can be found on usenet.
And I usually download at my max, 90k for my DSL connection.

  5. I run cable and can download at like half a MB a sec if I get full speed. But is there anyway my ISP could track me and what I DL. Like say SMR gets sued and there newsgroup gets checked out, would me being a subscriber bring it right to me. And thus a lawyer at my door and my ISP on my ass?

Well you need a newsreader designed for binary files, one that will combine all the lines (300 pieces) into 1 file.
I like x-news it's free and has enough features for the advanced user.

  7. Dont worry about downloading, if you decide to post you will need to take precautions.

  8. So I'm safe downloading but uploading can bite me then? My modem allows only 10KB a sec so I doubt I will be uploading anything. I was using Outlook Express, and when it previewed a file it was just jibberish and numbers, I guess cause it was binary.

  9. Click the message tab in outlook then combine and decode.
But it's much better to use a binary newsreader like x-news.
