  1. i tried hooking my laptop up to my tv to watch a divx movie today.. hm.. it didnt work.. here's some info.

    compaq 1200z laptop
    1ghz amd athlon processor
    256mb ram
    10gb harddrive
    rage mobility w/ tvout
    clean install of xp pro

tried playing 2 different divx movies, one with 23fps & the other with 30fps.. tried changing colors from 32bit to 24bit to 16bit.. tried on 3 different tv's.. a myriad of different players, wmp, mplayer2, vidomi, bsplayer, microdvd player, tha playa, & powerdvd.. no dice.. i get my desktop and everything else to show up, its just the actual video wont show up on the tv screen, its just black.. i can get mpeg1 & mpeg2 video to play just fine through tv out though..

another odd thing is that i am able to view the video divx when i open it through virtual dub.. but thats no solution

    whats goin' here?

i have a desktop system with a ati all-in-wonder 128, and she works just fine with tv-out..

by the way, there are no drivers i can download.. i'm stuck with what xp provides.. atleast according to the ati website..

any help would be greatly appreciated

ok jeex, ill try to help you out. goto your display properties..and goto advances settings. There will be a tab called display. There you should see a button that you can click to enable the tv out.

  3. tv out is enabled.. and thats not the issue here.. i dont have a "displays" tab where you indicated.. probably because ati doesnt supply a driver for rage mobility, so i must use the one supplied by windows xp..

the issue is divx video does not show up on the tv screen, everything else does, except the divx video..

ati does supply a driver for the ati all-in-wonder 128, and i do have a "displays" tab for my desktop.. everything works fine on it.. but thats besides the point..

    thanks anyhow

  4. if its just the video playing that is blacked out it sounds like a video overlay problem
You see this same effect if you try to do a screen capture with the print screen button on a video playing in media player (it will just be black)
    Sorry this isnt a solution
    hope it helps

hmm, i got an idea. It may or may not work, but its worth a shot. In WMP's configuration (im assuming your using version 6), goto view...options...goto the second tab (player) and change it to open a new window for each file. Now, attempt to play any file (it doesn't matter what it is), then whilt this is going, open your divx file. I have noticed that when i do this, the second window (in your case, the divx file) is able to be screen captured. Im not sure on the technical side of this. It has something to do with the direct show system. Maybe a more experienced user in this forum could elaborate.
