  1. I've read about this in several posts, but all don't have the fundamental answer to this question. HOW? My presets all have 240 as the maximum horizontal sync, and next mentions that these captures are ready realtime, so it can't be through virtualdub etc... HOW DO WE DO IT? Thanks...

  2. use 8+ Mbps MPEG-2 I-frame only. it's like MJPEG, but no 4G AVI limit (still the 4G FAT32 limit though). 8Mbps works well, but depending on the source you might want to go as high as 12.

use MPEG-2, it's better at high bitrate than MPEG-1 even though it requires just a bit more CPU (we're talking I-frames only, so the CPU amount is similar)

  3. also turn motion estimation up as close to 100% as possible w/o drops (shouldn't be a big problem, if you can't get 100% back down the bitrate a little first)

i've had good luck with ME ranges of 128x128 for action, 64x64 for slow scenes

  4. That method is going to increase the size of the file. If I read correctly, next's method kept the file size and CPU requirements the same as his XVCD captures.

    NEXT!!! HELP!!

  5. jpb- simply set up a custom capture profile in MMC 7.1. When it comes time to choose resolutions just choose the size you would like - 352x480 for example. You can also choose mpeg1 or mpeg2, which ever you would like. I have more luck with mpeg1 but this varies among people.

Two things. If you choose mpeg1 get Stinkey's tool to set the VCD subkey to 1 in the registry. The secong thing is you must have a DVD player that can handle the XVCD resolutions. These are not compliant files so your player must be able to handle them. I do 352x480 and 480x480 mpeg1 without a problem and there's no subsequent encoding involved. Just capture and burn.

sorry, i meant that as a replacement for AVI capture, since you mentioned virtualdub, and missed that you wanted it realtime

  7. Thanks next - that is exactly the info I've been looking for. I didn't realize that I could even change the capture size and STILL make a Nero compliant mpeg. EXCEPT - I don't see the option to capture at anything wider than 240??? What do I need to change that - stinkey's tool?

  8. jpb - I use an AIW Pro 128 32meg with the version of MMC 7.1 designed for that card. The settings are there when you set up a custom capture. If you are using another ati card then it is possible that the settings may not be there.

    edit -

Let me correct the above. I also have the ati rage fury pro 32 meg with a/v in and it uses the same MMC 7.1 and the settings are there as well.

MMC 7.1 is 3-4 years old. You need to update it.

  12. Is your ATI TV Wonder a VE? I thought I read somewhere that 320x240 was the maximum resolution that a VE could capture?

  13. ALL tv wonders only can capture @ 240. This is by design.

You can capoture higher but not with ati's drivers, and then probably not with mmc. (Not tried these drivers with mmc but expect trouble.)

these drivers will make great captures with that card but probbaly not with mmc. Its free and open source. instal them, love them, switch your capture program.

    Ah .. BT card.
If you can afford it, get a better/newer card.
If not, good luck. Try other capture software. MMC and BT is poor combo.

  16. which you suggest me???

  17. I have done great captures with this card, the btwincap drivers I supplied a link for, and virtualdub avi capture and Windvr capture straight to mpeg2. If you don't mind changing your capture program, you can stil use the card. the lack of 480 capture suport is not because of the mmc version you are using specifically, it't that combined with the bad ati driver. there is a technical reason why they chose to do this; the chipset cannot capture @ 480 and at the same time alow you to watch it in overlay. it is a hardware limittion of the chipset of this card.

    http://btwincap.sourceforge.net

The card is Ati tv wonder.

Windvr for mpeg capture and virtualdub for avi capture to huffyuv codec. (lossless)
