  1. I have a couple of AVI files (i think they are divx).
I just installed the divx5 bundle (previously had divx4)
When i try and play the file, media player attempts to download the microsoft MPEG4 codec then still fails to play.

    Any ideas??

Try playing them in virtuadub. That usually works for me.

  3. Try downloading Tsunami Codec Pack or Nimo. I prefer Tsunami because it's smaller in size and it has worked better than Nimo for me. You should be able to watch your avi in any player, not just virtual dub.

  4. boss is correct

pull it into virtualdub - the error message will give you the correct codec to look for (in a search engine)

in my opinion, I wouldn't go with any all in one codec pack - too hard to figure out codec problems later on,,, just a suggestion

  5. Thanks for the advice
I openned it in virtuadub and get the following error message
"The requested audio compression is not compatible with the input format. Check that the sampling rate and chanel count of the input match those of the requested format."

If i disable audio, i can play the film.

Should i install the codec pack?
