pls help : how to convert a vcd .dat file to avi ?

i didn't find a guide how to convert a vcd .dat file to an avi file.

i have tried vcdcutter but it can only converts to .mpg
i also rename the .dat file to .avi but this works only on 1 vcd
i own. on my other discs it doesn't work. why ? why this works
sometimes and sometimes not ? is there a tool i can use to
convert them all ? please help.

.dat is mpeg

.dat is used on VCD's -- it's got a little more information in the file header - but it's essentially a mpeg

you can also get VCDGear to strip the extra info off the .dat header and make it a true mpeg
