  1. Hi
I am a newbie, so sorry if the following seems obvious...

I copied the files and folders from a VCD to my harddisk, and then burnt all those files and folders back to a CDR. Although this newly created VCD plays fine with a software player, it does not work at all in my stand-alone DVD player (which can play the original VCD)

    Why is that?

    Thanks!

Hi-I also am new to this game and a couple of weeks ago I had the same problem . I have Nero 5.5/8.2 and thought -hey -just drag all the vcd files and burn the new vcd but as u found out it works on my pc but not on my standalone so I had a closer look at Nero . What you need to do in Nero is click on the "VCD" option ,then "NEW" then drag all the files in the "MPEGAV" folder on the VCD. Nero provides all the other things necessary -In Nero these other files are shown in RED. After that you just click "Write" and let it do all the rest .And I assure you it works -what s/ware are you using ?.
    regards

  3. But don't you loose the menu's and other things if you just put the files from the MPEGAV folder on it?

I also found out that VCD's need to be recorded in mode 2 instead of normal data-cd... maybe that's also part of the problem?

PS. I am also using Nero 5582

  4. I assume you arent burning on the fly because you only have a cdrw drive, no seperate dvd player? If you want to copy a disc to your hard drive use the create disc image option. This will create 1 file which is a duplication of the original disc. Then burn this disc image to a cdr.

Well the vcd's I am copying dont have any menus etc on them -they are just like a video tape except on a disc - I thought that you couldnt get the use of menus on a VCD ??? Am I wrong ??

I have only a cd-rom and a cd-rw. I couldnt get DVD's to play on my cd-rom -should I . I understood you couldnt play dvd's on a cd-rom but something I read elsewhere suggested I should be able to . I am getting a dvd-rom so it probably doesnt matter anyway but I'd like to know

Hey Guys, If you simply just want to copy a VCD to another CD, I suggest using CloneCD & do a direct CD to CD copy. You can also use Nero as well, although sometimes I have problems with Nerol.

If you just want to copy the video to your hard drive, use VCDEasy or VCDGear to extract the dat file from your VCD & turn it into a mpg file, don't just copy straight from the VCD.

As for molley, no, you cannot play DVD in a regular CD Rom drive, the drive will not even recognize the Disc.

  8. No you can't play dvd's on a cdrom, but you said you wanted to copy a vcd which will play in a cdrom. Put the vcd in your cdrom and a blank cdr in the cdrw. Click on copy disc in nero and select burn on the fly. This will do a direct copy of your vcd to your blank cdr.
