Sorry if im not in the right place guys, im new at this. I am venturing into the world of bluray encoding and things are not going well at all. I have a few files that are mkv files in the mp4 container(I think thats how that goes) and no matter what app I use to try to remux them they will not play in my BR player. I have used handbrake, makemkv, imgburn, etc. I just dont get it. What am I doing wrong?

I'm playing them via a panasonic dp820 4k player. But I do have another I tried them in and they did the same thing. I followed a tutorial on converting it in handbrake and then remuxing it with tsMuxer and then burning it with imgburn. The internet ASSURES me this is the way(Mando pun intended).

P:S Burning them to BD discs. BD25's

P P S: It actually worked that time using that method but it creates such a small file. That's a massive waste of BD disc space no?

MKV and MP4 are both containers that can contain multiple different types of videos. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_video_container_formats
Imagine they're cake containers, one rectangle and the other square. When you ReMux, you're taking the cake from one container and putting it another as long as it fits. It doesn't matter or affect the flavor of the cake (Codec). Search for ReMux MKV to MP4 and there are lots of ways to do that.

It seems you have an understanding of the following, but there are numerous settings in HandBrake that can be used to get the best quality reencode to make a compliant Video Blu-Ray disc. Search for the numerous threads that discuss this. I never reencode anything so have no experience.

If you're trying to make a Video Blu-Ray, the flavor (Codec) of the cake matters. There are only a handful of Codecs that are allowed for Video Blu-Ray. https://www.videohelp.com/hd

Use Mediainfo to see what Codec your videos (MKV, MP4, etc.) contain. https://www.videohelp.com/software/MediaInfo If they're anything other than one of the limited Video Blu-Ray Codecs, you must reencode (and lose quality) to make the video, Video Blu-Ray compliant.

  6. Authoring a blu-ray disc is not straightforward and simple. The links below show compliant formats and suggested encoder settings for the x264 encoder.
Be aware that some players are very picky and spit out any discs which do not fully comply to the blu-ray standard.

However, your player may play files in .MKV or .mp4 format with less restrictive settings, means video files just burned onto a BD25 disk. Study the manual of your player to see its capabilities.

Blu-Ray is the disc type, ala DVD and CD. It appears the OP is trying to create a Video Blu-Ray*, which as my link above describes, requires a very specfic format, which the OP seems to have tackled.

A Data Blu-Ray / Blu-Rayas you described can contain any type of file, including MKV and MP4s, which may not contain Video Blu-Ray compatible video formats, but which the OP's player may play if contained in a Data Blu-Ray.

*To be fair, I'm not sure if Video Blu-Ray is the correct term for Blu-Ray discs specifically authored for video. I use the term Video Blu-Ray as an extension of Video DVD, which is the term for DVDs authored for video.

It is clear that the OP wants to author a Blu-ray video disc by mentioning the word Blu-ray encoding, You don't need to encode if you are making a DATA disc. I would refer the OP to Blu-ray authoring section, there are a lot of threads suggesting Blu-ray authoring software:

  9. @OP: Take a look at jdobbs' DB Rebuilder.
    https://www.videohelp.com/software/BD-Rebuilder
    https://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=143716

Besides of re-authoring of BDs it allows to import many types of video files of various formats and converts+authors+burns these to Blu-Ray compliant video discs, even supporting the addition of menus.
It has its own subforum over at doom9 with every support by members and by the author one can imagine. Assumes a little learning curve though.
