the cats, however: do you know if is there some new mjpeg codec for virtualdub? or some specific mjpeg dmb1 encoder?

To be honest it is not clear to me what is your problem... if you can decode MJPEG with dmb1 fourcc by for example ffmpeg then it is regular MJPEG and nothing special...
