Upload the AVI to a file hosting service and post the download link here.

  4. Security cameras often try to disguise the fact that they use open source codecs by changing the fourcc code. Try using AVI Fourcc Code Changer to change the codec to XVID.

No result. Does the security camera have a player that can play the file?
In this case, you could copy the video using screen recording software.
pyv5 could be a proprietary codec; in this case you're out of luck.

  8. It seems to be related to H263. Using 'ffplay -vcodec h263' to play to the file is giving some different shades of grey that change over time. So not perfect yet, but a step in the right direction.

  10. most likely pyv5 is not a codec, but some fourcc the security camera put instead of some normal one for AVC or HEVC.

What would i do is to dump a video stream only, and try feed it ot some video analyser so it can try to recogzise it.

  12. Hi !
I know that some security cameras which create AVI video files oftently use MJPEG codec.
Try to make a backup of your video file and change the FourCC to MJPG instead of PYV5 and open it with VLC.
    Best regards
