Vidcoder Settings to Fix Interlace Issues

Sometimes when backing up DVD Box Sets one runs across issues where you have video that when watching the video it is distracting and aggravating to the eyes. With for example Cannon and Barnaby Jones DVD Box Sets I ran across this windowblind effect where the video would be smooth and look alright and then get that effect and it was jarring. I remember I used Vidcoder and used some filters and doubled the frame rate and the videos looked pretty good and no more of that effect when watching.

So I am looking for new Vidcoder settings and advice when it comes to videos such as on Tubi with Diff'rent Strokes they have a windowblind effect happening on those videos and the Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman episodes on PLUTO have a very severe windowblind effect. So any advice on what do with videos like that using Vidcoder Filters and frame rate what is the best way to do it would be much appreciated. Thank you in advance.

I think you're talking about interlace comb artifacts. Those shows were probably all shot on film and telecined for TV/DVD. You want to inverse telecine back to 23.976 fps progressive frames.

Pluto should be ashamed of themselves. The episode I looked at has 30fps and resized while interlaced (or telecined).
I don't think Vidcoder can deal with this.

davexnet: My Sister did have the complete series Box Set with the Dr. Quinn movies as well. I did back them up and she has since misplaced the DVDs. I was a fool though as at the time I set 360p as the quality to save hard drive space. It turns out quite a few episode had lip sync issues as well. I think she is going to buy a new set and we will see if we can back them up and go for at least 480p quality.

Yes Pluto has done a terrible job on Dr. Quinn episodes. Thankfully they have done better on many other TV shows and movies. Thank you for your input.
