  1. Hello Everyone,

I recently purchased a brand new WH16NS58DUP drive and put it into an OWC Mercury Pro optical USB 3.0 enclosure.

I ran tests with Opti Drive 1.80 and some of the results are concerning.
I am wondering if I got a bad drive or a bad enclosure.
I emailed tech support at VINPOWER and asked if the drive was bad or if I needed a firmware update.
They responded that maybe my computer was bad or maybe I should use Imageburn instead.
The pc burns near perfect discs with my Pioneer BDR-S13UBK

The problems I notice with the VINPOWER drive are that the BD-R test disc burn is extremely slow.
The Verbatim blank BD-R discs are rated for 16X, but burn at only about 3X.
Many of the disc tests will not run on Opti Drive 1.80.
The rated burn speed according to the drive -> Opti Drive is 8X.
My Pioneer drive rates these same discs at 16X.
When I try to use Imageburn on the VINPOWER drive, it also only shows 8X as maximum speed.

My Pioneer BDR-S13UBK connected SATA III burns the very same discs at 16X.
The WH16NS58DUP is connected to a 10Gbps USB 3.2 Gen 2 port with the brand new included USB 3.0 cable.

    Can anyone offer any suggestions?

    Thank you.

Have you tried the drive installed in the PC rather than in the usb enclosure?
