  1. I have been incredibly frustrated and defeated, and decided to go to people who know what they are doing.

    My goal:
I write music and wish to have a video accompany it, posting on YouTube.
I want a title screen (jpg) at the beginning and end, and want it to fade in and out.

    That's really it.

I initially tried to find free software, but came across limitations (my music and video to match, can be 15 minutes long) that made them unusable. I decided to be willing to pay and tried Movadi. It was great, and I decided to purchase it, but it has a subscription model (which I will not do) that is quite expensive.

My needs are extremely basic, and I am wondering from the informed here as to suggestions to try. I just need something simple (this is, obviously, not my area of knowledge) that can meet the goals stated above.

    Thanks for your help.

  5. If DaVinci Resolve is not what you are looking for: kdenlive

You do not say what your OS is.
For older Windows you might give Movie Maker a try.
For Windows 10 & 11 try Microsoft Clipchamp.

I tried Movie Maker, and it lacked some of the essential features I needed (I forget which, at the moment).

    I'll look into Microsoft Clipchamp.

Yes, and it didn't work for me (do not remember why).

I believe that I have found something that works - PhotoStage Slideshow Producer.

All NLE can do what you need. Just use KdenLive and youtube has plenty of examples.
Hint: Use multi track if you need fancy fade in and out.
