Hello,
I have many Canon HV30 HDV tapes recorded in PF25 / PSF mode.
I can't find any method to deinterlace (deinterleave ? ) video without interpolation or calculation.
I simply want to "merge" top and bottom fields together, in order to get a progressive 25 fps video.
I tried ffmpeg, avidemux, kdenlive... not found a simple deinterlave filter
Any suggestions ?
Thank you

if you have video editing software like vegas pro right click on the file in your assets and click on properties. go to the field order pulldown and change upper field first to progressive. click ok. it's that easy.

Can you attach a sample (up to 500mb).
Confirm you're on Linux? -
Here a short sample of PF25 made with Canon HV30.
Yes I'm on Linux, but can run windows if necessary.
Thanks !Last edited by Aponia71; 15th Jan 2026 at 04:57.

I did not download your file, but I used do that on daily bases. As was said, you do that in your NLE, like Vegas for example,
or use Restream and check "FrameType Progressive" and "Progressive Sequence" and deselect "Top Field First".
I even used to use some graphic automaton (forgot the name, but perhaps still have it somewhere) to fix my captured HDV clips like that, using ReStream. Because Restream has no command line usage, just GUI.
Just adding, that ReStream does that without needing to encode file again, it just fixes the file.Last edited by _Al_; 15th Jan 2026 at 03:49.

It seems it worked with Restream !
I obtained a progressive video which has exactly the same size, and when analizing with mediainfo (linux tool, not window, don't know if they are the same) :
Before Restream :
Video

Indeed, Restream is only GUI, but I'm wondering if I can do the same fix with ffmpeg, so that I could batch process my many files...
Anyway, thanks a lot, it began to become a nighmare to search how to fix those old format ! -
Restream Auto.zip
I found it in my archives to use it as a batch solution. Change those flags in m2t files en masse.
It is for windows. Download it, unzip it into a directory, read read_this.txt file, run Restream Auto.exe
Used WinAutomation 3.0.3 , at that time (it's project waj file is included), after starting it wants directory with files, then destination directory (could be the same) to automatize loading files one by one into Restream and automatizing mouse movements to select it all. So after selecting those two directories, DO NOT MOVE YOUR MOUSE. -
PSF is an interesting format because you can play it as though it is progressive without any interlacing artifacts. Basically there's only movement every 2 fields, so each pair of fields are from the same moment in time and look exactly like a progressive frame when paused. I'd think you could just not deinterlace it during re-encoding and be fine, or if you had a way to just change the interlacing flag to progressive, you'd be fine as well. Not that I'm an expert in it though. I ran across it once on a U-Matic music video oddly enough.

-When editing, it should be conformed as progressive because NLE would deinterlace or just not to confuse anyone if editing and forgetting about it
-When keeping originals, to not confuse anyone later in the future, storing just progressive footage and properly flagged as such
-In general to prevent confusions, to straighten up this "wrongly" flagged video
