I ordered HP printer with A3 scanning capability from my usual and reliable computer supplier. Cost about $260
The order was placed on the 7th December and it was supposed to be delivered within 6 working days.
In the order it was stated that they will leave it by my apartment door.
I waited and waited but the printer never arrived.
Today 17th December I checked my orders history and to my surprise I was informed that it has been already delivered. This is strange because I never received any messages that they delivered it or when.
I sent a message to the supplier today and requested to investigate. This will take some time obviously.
My guts feeling tells me that it was most probably stolen when I was not at home or they delivered it very early in the morning while I was asleep and a stranger stole it, even though it weighs over 20 kilos.
Another possibility is that the delivery people kept it for themselves.
I just wanted to ask if something like this happened to anyone and what was the supplier's decision?
Did they give a refund because they are covered with insurance or they decided that they are not responsible anymore once they hand the order to the delivery people?

A lot depends on the supplier.
Amazon is good at helping track down a delivery or was for me.
A tire I ordered went to Florida & I live in Texas.
They got it to me finally.
The tracking number showed it as delivered.
ebay with paypal has always got me a refund.
I have had a few missing deliveries from ebay.
The USPS also investigate a claim well & will try to track down a package delivered to the wrong address.
Have you checked with your neighbors to see if they accepted this package?
I have had a deliverer do this when a signature was required.
If I can I try to NOT have a deliverer do this. Some businesses allow you to choose not to.
I will drive across the city to a deliverer instead of having a neighbor accept a package.
Since you live in Israel this may not be done there.
Here if I have any package being delivered & I would use this only for an expensive package.
The local sheriffs department accepts deliveries for anyone.
Then you have to show a picture ID to get your package.
You might check with your local law enforcement to see if they have a similar program.
Maybe even suggest it if they do not. -
@cholla thanks for the post
I agree that Amazon is very good when it comes to refunds claim.
Like you I try to order and get it delivered to a nearby branch, but this printer is too heavy to carry and I don't own a car so I had to choose delivery this way.
I have been a customer with this supplier for many years but in Israel things aren't the same in other countries. If you decide to return an order they give you hell.
This is between me and the supplier as no law enforcement can help.
I hope the supplier has insurance for things like this. -
This is a really interesting subject. Lots of people are getting their packages stolen from the front door area. Youtube has hundreds of doorbell camera videos that show the bad people steeling packages. I have wondered if any of the home owners ever get a resolution. This may not be your issue but please let us know how you get this resolved.

@ subtitles.
The law enforcement suggestion would be for next time.
If the law enforcement in your city offers a similar service.
Here I can use the sheriff departments address as the shipping address.
Then go pick up the package there.
I do have to show my picture ID but that is not a problem for me. -
The supplier replied that their delivery courier claims that they delivered the order.
The strange thing is the supplier was supposed to send me a text message indicating when they delivered the order, but they never did that.
I have absolutely no idea when they delivered it (if they did!!) or at what time. As I am not working I am most of the time at home, or out for a short time to buy supplies from the grocery shops nearby, and keep my ears on alert in case someone approaching my front door.
So It is their word against mine.
It looks like I have lost this case unless I cancel the payments (10 installments) after consulting with my credit card company, if I can do this without getting into trouble. -
@ Subtitles,
I would try to do some more before canceling the payments on your credit card.
This is because the supplier is claiming the printer was delivered.
I believe you need to get the name of the delivery courier from your supplier.
Then try contacting & dealing directly with them
Your supplier should be able to give you a tracking number for the printer.
If not that a purchase order number for the delivery courier service.
The supplier paid the delivery courier some way & there should be a record.
of this. That is probably what you will need to deal directly with the delivery courier.
Here in the US some delivery services even take a picture of the item on your "porch" or where they set the item.
So ask if they have a picture or other proof of delivery.
I know this will take your time & you should not have to do all this just to get an item delivered.
Beyond this you may have to sue . I have no idea what that involves in Israel.
In the US we have a "small claims court" for low value law suits.
If the delivery courier has no "proof of delivery" then it is their word against yours. -
A little update
Today the delivery man brought me the order. Apparently they gave him the wrong mobile number.
There is no way it would have been stolen. It is huge and weighs a lot over 20 kilos.
The delivery man was nice and brought it inside the apartment and I gave him a generous tip.
Wow it feels like I got my Christmas present this year two days ahead of time.
Thanks to all your suggestions. I learnt few good ideas.
