  1. Hi,

I am looking for a good and safe WiFi extender. Just need it to go about 15-20 feet further in my backyard. The Router is upstairs in the front of the house now, and works fine in the house. It does pick up in the backyard, but goes in and out.

Also... I googled outdoor TVs, and they are pretty expensive... For now (next summer at this point)...I don't mind taking it in and out of the house. Maybe down the road I will keep it outdoor and get a tv meant for outdoor.

With that in mind - anything suggestions for outdoor use, or would any regular TV do?

    Thanks.

Have you considered using a Poweline kit?
I have used a TP-Link Poweline kit model AV1000 few years ago to get Wi-fi in the kitchen otherwise I would have used a LAN cable of at least 10 meters. It worked great and perhaps these days there are more powerful powelines on the market.
15 - 20 feet are what 7 meters most? I think this can be a good option to try.
What you need is to check out is if the electric wiring from the house to the backyard is on the same circuit breaker where your router sits. Because ideally the wiring on two points on the same circuit breaker would give you the best signal, but even if the circuit breakers are different, you would still get a good signal.
You can order a powerline kit from Amazon and test.

Powerline kits are a mixed bag - could be good, bad, good in certain sections of a house but not others, good for a while then going bad (progressively or suddenly). I know, I have had a couple of those kits since 2016, and just had one drop a segment of my network from ~200Mbps down to 3.

Get a 2nd WAP, connected via LAN, set to pass-through mode and using the same SSID as the main, to use as an extender. Perhaps also get one with a decent external antenna for increased gain/range.

  4. Thanks for the responses.... Any thoughts on Mesh Systems? Some of my research pointed to Mesh instead of Extenders.. I am not sure what Mesh means yet, so sorry if I am repeating anything that has already been said.

Any thoughts on an outdoor TV?

    Thanks again.

I think a mesh solution is expensive. Please check prices and specifications.

As for outdoor TV, what size do you need? There are some portable TVs that are not that expensive.
An alternative solution would be a monitor (if you have one lying around it can save you money) and a set top box like Roku but you will need a good Wi Fi signal.
This is what I am using ATM. I have a 27" 4K monitor (Also a Sony TV 47") and Roku Ultra, but I prefer the monitor.
What kind of TV channels can you pick up outdoors (with antenna) or are you relying on streaming Apps only?

  6. Thanks!

Haven't decided on a size - 27 inch is probably good enough. I don't have an extra monitor around, or Roku, but I do have a firestick. I could probably pick up several channels with an Antenna, but will most likely use apps - since that is what most sports are on.
