BEFORE YOU READ.... NOTE THAT THIS IS A VERY LONG MESSAGE!
I HOPE YOU CHOOSE TO KEEP READING IT AND ANSWER....
Before I go on my problem, let me just give you a brief detail on my hardware and software, because I don't think it's my hardware problem.
----------------------------------------------------------
HARDWARE
========
P4 @ 1.8GHZ
256 RD Ram
80GIG Hd, 7200 RPM
GeForce 3 Ti
5GB Of Virtual Memory Enabled
SOFTWARE
========
DivX Codec 4.12
TmpgEnc 12A
Virtual Dub 1.410 (Latest)
DivX Fix 1.07
----------------------------------------------------------
Ok... I downloaded lots of AVI (DivX) files from the net. I used Virtual Dub to open them... When i open them, they give me a popup message saying: "VBR AUDIO STREAM DETECTED". I just ignore it, change audio and video to FULL processing, change the audio to 44100, and "No Compression". Then save as WAV, and then I use the enw wav as audio file, and use TmpgENC to merge the wav file and my AVI file into a NEW PERFECTLY working Mpg1 File (NTSC VCD COMAPTIBLE)
Now The TWO problems....
...........
...........
I used Virtual Dub to open some movies... When i open them, they DO NOT give me a popup message saying: "VBR AUDIO STREAM DETECTED". I then change audio and video to FULL processing, change the audio to 44100, and "No Compression". Then save as WAV, and then I use the enw wav as audio file, and use TmpgENC to merge the wav file and my AVI file into a Mpg1 File which has AUDIO_SYNC Problems from the start.
...........
...........
So.... I tried a different way
I used Virtual Dub to open some movies... When i open them, they DO NOT give me a popup message saying: "VBR AUDIO STREAM DETECTED". I then change video to FULL processing and the audio to "DIRECT STREAM" processing change the audio to 44100, and "No Compression". Then save as WAV, and then I use the new 200MB wav (small size!!) as audio file, and use TmpgENC to merge the wav file and my AVI file into a Mpg1 File which starts out with GOOD audio, and then slowly evolves into AUDIO_SYNC Problems.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I am sure this problem was asked by LOTS of people before me. Please do not reply and ask me to read the guides... i HAVE read all the gudes here, as well as DVD Digest, and Doom9! The only thing that I can think of as a SOLUTION is the manual editing of my audio file to "fit the nosie of a door slam, or a glass break". But that is just too much... Does anyone here know a simpler way? Or if I'm doing something wrong?
Keep in mind, that the process works PERFECTLY with ALL movies with the "VBR STREAM DTECTTED" message and NEVER without that message.
I hope you either reply back here, because I could really use anyone's help. I am also willing to give you ANYTHING I have through my ftp. (software, movies, music....) You can either reply here, or ICQ me, or MSN me or EMAIL ME. (anything is fine... just REPLY back please!)
Thank you In advance, because I'm sure someone will reply here!![]()

People have had this problem before with divx 5. movies, and you never said if you had divx 5 codec installed.
Then you said

I've never heard of anyone doing this, so I can't comment on this part.
Did you adjust the vfapi pluggin like the guide says to. I have done 30 movies in the last two months and have never had a problem, You shold get the newest version of tmpgenc 2.54a It has fixed a bug here is the link http://www.tmpgenc.net/
Hope this helps

Anyways... some of the movies that are NOT workin are.. "Exit Wounds" and "Planet Of The Apes" and "TombRaider" (movies that were released WAY before "DivX 5" was even out!

Uhm.. What is vfapi plugin, where do I get it, is it free, and how do i enable it?
Thanks again in advance! -
First off get newest TMPGenc.
If you read the guide there is a section that says problems with tmpgenc click here and if you do then it will show you what to change also this vfapi is already part of tmpgenc.
GOOD LUCK
VCD4MEWe were all NEWBIES once and the only stupid question is the one that's not asked? -
Which guide woudl this be? (URL please?)
Also... When I do use LATEST tmpgenc... shall i get the freeware version, or PRO?
Also... How shall i go about Setting up thr vfapi, (and where in tmpgenc) shall i find it...??
If you have msn or icq.. can you add me? i would be a LOT easier... thanks! -
WEll.... can anyone asnwer my pevious question?
also.. with the NEW tmpgenc, what method should I follow out od my 3 files listed above? Thanks and reply back PLEASE! -
well gdi-shooter,
Either your confused or I am confused but this sounds like the guide you are already using http://www.vcdhelp.com/divxtovcd.htm. The only thing diffrent that I do is I use NERO for the burning instead of vcd easy.
but if you are not the you should be, a lot of people use guides from diffrent sites then come here looking for help. I amnot saying that you are one of those people nor am I saying the other sites guides are bad.
get newest freeware version of tmpgenc then look at the guide that I gave you there is a section that says problems with tmpgenc click here and if you do then it will show you what to change also this vfapi is already part of tmpgenc.
If you need more help post back and I'll help
VCD4MEWe were all NEWBIES once and the only stupid question is the one that's not asked? -
I did use that guide, and thats what gave me that damn problem. I DID read the "TmpgEnc" problem thing where it says Audio Out of Sync, and used the guide to TRY and fix it (as I said in the very first message I posted here!)...
Only thing that i DONT know about is the "vfapi", and if its aprt of tmpgenc, how do I load it? or use it's settings...
VCD4ME, do you have msn or icq? it would probabl;y go a lot faster through there! -

I already told you that vfapi is part of tmpgenc in my second reply to you.
Ok when you went into the problem section in tmpgenc you tripped right over it!first paragraph here is the link http://www.vcdhelp.com/tmpgenc.htm#problems
As for this

VCD4MEWe were all NEWBIES once and the only stupid question is the one that's not asked? -
sure lol....
and i will repeat it again.... i DID read that file... all itsays is hgow 2 extarct with virtual dub if audio is mseed, I DID do that! and the audio is STILL emssed.... and as for the vfapi, you keep telling me its aprtof tmpgenc... but HOW DO I USE IT??
AS for the program teaching... sure, go to
http://messenger.microsoft.com
and download their MSN MESSANGER
then go to
http://www.icq.com
and download their ICQ software
(these r both chatting softwares)
Then come back here, and tell me your "@hotmail.com" email and your Icq Number ID. and then we can talk more easily.... -
for fixing the gradual audio sync, load the avi file into virtual dub and mess with the video frame rate... change the frame rate by a few tenths of a frame or so then hit f5 (preview) and wait a couple minutes and see if the audio is doing fine... after that is figured out, choose your video compression and save, then convert to mpeg with tmpgenc...
-
Ok let me say this one more time READ right above out of sync problems
Actually wait one minute I'll go retrieve it for you
Ok I'm back here it is I really don't know where you looked but here it is
all I did was copy/paste. you keep coming back and saying about the audio thing how could you miss the first pragraph
Problems:
If TMPGEnc gives you an error message(file unsupported) when opening the video or you just get a empty/black video preview window
Be sure that you have installed the DivX Codecs(both DivX 3.11, 4 and 5) and also try with the Nimo Codec Pack. If that does not work try to change the settings in TMPGEnc under Option->Environmental settings->VFAPI plug-in and right click on the DirectShow Multimedia File Reader and increase the priority to 1 or 2 and try open the video.
If you get no audio error, out of sync problems or bad audio.
Try to convert the audio to wav before converting. Use virtualdub read here how to do it
The funny part is that we keep going back and forth and I don't know for sure this will work or not.

VCD4MEWe were all NEWBIES once and the only stupid question is the one that's not asked? -
That msg u shwoed me in "RED" doesnt have anythign to do with me! That message is for if i CAN NOT open the video!, I CAN open the video...
my audio is just VERY messed up... (NOT GRAUDAL)
My avi does NOT have this problem... my avi DOES NOT give me a "VBR" message when I open it.... I jsut got an idea that will take me like 5 hours, I will try it if some1 will confirm it works...
How about saving the WAV thru virtual dub... then coverting the wav to Mp2 using TMPGENC... and then converting the original avi to MPG using tmpgenc and then MERGEING the 2 using multiplex, will this work???
Also.... If so... what should i use to save my files seperately?
"AUDIO ONLY" or "SYSTEM AUDIO ONLY"
"VIDEO ONLY" or "SYSTEM VIDEO ONLY"
Please SOME1 help me! I know its taking for ever, but I have around 40 GB of movies i CAN NOT convert.... and around 30Gb I can convert and are already copnverted!!
Thanks, and msg me back either here or msn/icq -
stupid divx codecs....
it says install both 3.11 and 4.12 codec....
how the hell do I install ALL both of them? each one tries to overwrite the other! -
great... even MORE problems then before!
now I instaleld the divx3 over divx4.12, and wehn i extarct audio using same method the audio file is now BIGGER than video!!! -
and how the heck am i supposed to install divx5?
their free regualr version sucks...
their pro version has spyware
does anyone have a cd key and activation code for divx5.01 pro that actually works? -
All right that "red part" is what I saw a medeator tell some one else to do and that worked for that person even for audio problems if I find it I'll post it. as for divx codec if you install divx 5 you should get them all.or if you really don't want divx 5 than just get 4.12 that's all I did and have no problems with any movie.
Also if you didn't install tmpgenc new vesion please do so there is an audio bug fixed"which is your problem".I don't know why you would even tempt fate by istalling an out-dated tmpgenc (12a) that program is good for some things but not yours. Now I still think you should adjust vfapi pluggin. I did and have never had ANY PROBLEMS for the 30 movies I've done.

but when i DO NOT have the VBR stuff in my avi, and I follow the same process (extract audio... bla bla bla) THAT IS WHEN I GET THE AUDIO SYNC PROBLEMS....
summarised... I LIKE VBR TRACKS< they DONT give me Problems, NON VBR tracks GIVE me problems. So what process shall I follow if my track does NOT have VBR???? -
I didnt read all of the post cause it was confusing and dull, it sounds to me like your using Tmpeg templates therefore i summise that your probably converting one of the odd framerates (23.whatever & 29. whatever) to Pal or vice versa, unless you willing to use some in depth audio tools to stretch or shrink your extracted wav's, i would check the "do not frame rate conversion" in the Tmpeg under settings, advanced. I have tried loads of methods, and tons of hours, to convert from NTSC to PAL with very inconsistant results. When i did finally get it to work regular it seemed to much hard work as most DVD players play all framerates anyway.

chrisgy, please read my whole post... because the whole thing you said, had nothing to do with me....
thanks! -
well uhm... .. this post is dying out, no1 is answering... its like 4 pages to the back now.....
So banjazzer.... how shall I do it??? -
First, the way to do it every time is as you described first - audio full compression and then save wav. I don't think it is necessary to convert to 44100, but that should not cause problems. Sometimes I do and sometimes not. You don't say where you get your DivX, but I would not discount the possibility that the problem is in the source material. For example, on at least 2 occasions I have downloaded DivX where the sync has been way out. Yet when I converted to mpg using the standard method, it corrected itself!!!? By the same token, I suppose, had the material played in sync for me to start with, would the mpg have been in sync? I digress. 8) You don't say how often this occurs, but it is almost certainly nothing you are doing wrong. I would say ALWAYs start with an uncompressed wav.
OK, so you have the uncompressed wav, but this is out of sync. I would imagine the sync error is constant. If not, the avi is quite probably screwed. You may have mentioned this, but I can't read the thead again - I have to go to bed in 6 hours. If it is a constant error, then adjust this when encoding with TMPGenc by using Source Range>>Audio Gap correct. If you want, you could use direct stream copy in Virtualdub and post a chunk, say to alt.binaries.test and I'll have a play around.
BTW, if you do use usenet, I recommend alt.binaries.movies.divx, alt.binaries.vcd and alt.binaries.vcd.svcd. The quality is a lot better than the stuff people generally get from filesharing progs. 8)
