1.Capture "transfer actually" the DV to your computer.
2.Open your video editing program (ulead videostudio came with my card) do your editing
EITHER
3a.'frameserve' using avisynth (do a search on forums for usage) to TMPGEnc and encode away.
3b.Export in your desired format (Mpeg1/2) using the plug in endoders (not recomended - poorer quality unless you have good plug ins.)
4.Create SVCD ,xSVCD or whatever works ! -
starbuck777,
I've ben doing this for some time now. I use my Canon ZR-10, though
it doesn't have pass-through, I'm just as content w/ using
the miniDV tapes. This way, if I make a mistake or something weird,
I can always pop back in the tape and try again. You can't do THAT
with a passthrough. ...though pass-through has it's benefits too.
Anyways, I haven't seen any guides on "DV (miniDV) to SVCD" but it
really should be any different from all the other "Source to VCD/SVCD"
process. Just, implace your miniDV with AVI step. Unless you're
looking for something else??
My process:
* Sat -> DV cam (miniDV) tape -> firewire HD -> encode -> CVD
.
.
or,
* using your DV cam, record to a miniDV tape in SP mode.
* and, once finished recording, rewind tape.
* load your DV capture software (i use RSDVCAP.EXE)
* setup to TRANSfer via firewire/HD
* now, encode to VCD/SVCD.
* or, now, load into vdub (if type 2, which include audio)
* setup your filtering
* frameserve to encoder, ie, tmpg or cce or pan.
That about raps it up for the first, cheap, skimpy, laim'ist guide
ever!! he, he...

vhelp, I tried to make a minidvd/cDVD as well but after the encode, the file was unrecognized by media player or powerDVD. What template from Tmpgenc do you use? And can you also tell me how you burn it, I mean, your burning it on a CD/RW, right? You don't put it on an actual DVD. I'm asking cause I upgraded to Nero 5.5.8.2 and I have a CD/RW but no DVD-R. But nero does not display an option for me to burn to DVD, only to VCD or SVCD. Does the Nero version you have display this DVD option?

hay YOU,
I'm not making miniDVD's or cDVD's!!
But, I am making CVD's!! - most of the time. They almost always
come out great.
>> TEMPLATE
I'm not really using any template. That is, I'm not much of a believer
in any one template, cause in the end, it's not the template that makes a
good VCD/SVCD/CVD but WHAT YOU WHOLE PROCESS IS!!
example:
* source quality
* method used to capture video (analy capture or DV firewire transfer)
* size of capture, ie, 352x480, 720x480, but NOT 352x240
* filtering
* pending on your source material captured, IVTC/23fps/inverse32, etc. process
* encoding method/process
* any and/or most of all the above, give or take a little here and there.
There are soo many variables involved here. It's not ONE thing that will
make a perfect quality encode. It's really a combination of methods in your
whole process.
But, SOURCE quality is key. VHS captures are NOT going to give you top
quality or DVD quality encodesSorry there.
>> BURNing
* I use Nero 5.5.3.5 - - no other burner.
* I use both [x]Compliance on and off, and both successful VCD
* I use both CDRW and CDR medias, and they both work fine, using an IOMagic
CDRW drive 16x10x32
* NO DVD BURNERS HERE. CAN'T AFFORD ONE.
* NO DVD burning option in my version of nero.
>> DVD player
* Apex AD-1500
>> TV size
* 13"
My enocdes are usually letterboxed because I've learned to like it, though
not too long ago I stated that I didn't like it. ...go figure. But, you do
get used to the letterbox look, and the scrunched look doesn't look so
scrunched after all. So far, I like it at this time.
I will be posting another sample clip shortly. I post a NEW one every day.
(or almost)
Any more questions?
I hope I've ben helpful.
