Hello all, am wondering if anybody else has seen this, or something similar.

About 10 years ago I picked up a "Hauppauge Colossus PCI Express Internal HD-PVR" and installed it. I split a HDMI feed out of the back of my Genie, into a HDMI splitter, one HDMI cable to the TV, the other HDMI to my PC. I have been happily watching (and sometimes recording) 1080i with this setup ever since. It uses WinTV v8. (It came with version 7, but they did a free update years ago.)

Today I was doing some work on my PC, while watching some shows on my PC on my other monitor. (I have dual monitors for just this and other uses) I left the house with everything running, and when I returned an hour or two later, all I had was a blue screen on the WinTV interface.

I've since tried just about everything. After closing WinTV, on the restart it buffered, then went to the dreaded "No Signal" screen. I rebooted the Genie. Rebooted the PC (numerous times) Re-installed both the Colossus and WinTV software. Checked the HDMI that normally goes into the PCI card by connecting it into another TV. The cable gave a good signal, as that TV showed what was coming out of the Genie.

As I looked online, all of the proposed solutions went to signal strength, Anti Virus/firewall, etc. That's the thing, NOTHING changed. I didn't install a new OS, or change my antivirus, or anything like that, everything is as it was, with the exception of the capture/watch ability.

All I've ever connected to it has been HDMI. I haven't tried using any of the other options for cabling that came with it, like component or whatever, because I frankly don't even know where they are at. I could look, but I really like the quality of the HDMI signal, and want to get it back and serviceable, so that's what I am concentrating on.

I'm at a loss. Did DirecTV suddenly, mid-day today, fire up a new update to HDCP that can't be dealt with by my splitter? (I add that mostly in jest)

But does this sound familiar to anybody? And thoughts or suggestions?

    Thanks all.

As far as you can tell, is it possible that the card is not working at all? After all 10 years is a long time.

Yes, that is always a possibility. Probably one I don't want to concede to, even though I may have to. I think it's "bulletproof-ness" in its usage has led me to think nothing bad, like product failure, would ever happen.

I was hoping others might have had a similar experience and found a solution, so I thought I'd test the waters and ask the question.

  4. Do you have a recent system backup?
Try to restore it, I don't think the Colossus is defective.
