Trying To Burn Upscaled 4K Video to Verbatim BD-R SL and DL Disks

Hello, and good day, everyone.

I hope that you all are well on this Wednesday. I'm here in the States and I am on a 24.04 Linux Ubuntu desktop trying to burn some upscaled 1080 to 4K video content to a blank Verbatim BD-R Single Layer and Dual Layer Disks. I have tried using ImgBurn 2.4.2.0 using Wine database, xfburn, k3b and Brasero on my computer and all have completed burning the m2ts upscaled video successfully, but the disks do not play on my Samsung or Sony blu-Ray players nor my Dad's LG 4K units. On the Samsung and Sony players the disk reads as invalid on the Sony one, and says it cannot be played on the Samsung. On my Dad's LG 4K players, it has said "Audio format is unsupported" when trying to access files on the disks.

I downloaded a Linux version of tsMuxeR (version 2.7.0), and using tsMuxeR, I'm able to mux the video to a blu ray folder (and iso, that did not seem to work on my players either). ImgBurn (through Wine database - version 2.4.2.0) then takes over and I try to burn those files to a blank Verbatim BD-R disk for playback. All muxes and burns from ImgBurn are met with successes each time. I have burned another couple of disks to SL BD-R and have gotten on the Samsung blu-ray player no video and a choppy audio performance (maybe it is too high a definition for my player and TV?). The Sony blu ray player downstairs just says that it is a BDMV readout and does not play there. I'm wondering if they might have a different result on my Dad's 4k blu ray LG players? Does anyone have any ideas on how best to solve this matter, please?

I also have a free trial run of DVFab 13 (through Wine) that I was thinking of getting a thumbdrive and putting the video to to allow for placement into the UHD Creator there. Some have said DVDFab is unreliable, any thoughts on this are welcome also, please?

Might you all have any thoughts about how best to proceed? Maybe take the set of attempts to my Dad and try again? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated, please? Thanks again for your help and attention, all.

The playback issues you're encountering maybe come down to codec compatibility and the disc burning process.

If you have access to a trial of DVDFab, the UHD Creator module is designed specifically to take your source video and properly encode, and author it into a stable Ultra HD Blu-ray compatible disc structure. It handles all the necessary audio/video compliance and disc authoring in one streamlined process, often giving better results than manual muxing + burning.

Also, test slower burns and ensure audio codecs are compatible.

If your Sony Blu Ray is not a 4k player, then it will not play 4K/UHD discs. Check the instructions for your father's LG player to see which audio codecs it requires. I know that LG can be a bit finicky with home-burned discs sometimes. I use a Panasonic UHD player that devours everything I feed it whith in "homemade" format. Hope you understand what I mean I'm not very good at English

if you're trying to make a 4k uhd disc that will player on retail players it pretty much mission impossible.
regardless of you're trying on just regular blu ray players like the samsung's or sony. or even 4k players.

don't think blu ray players, would even recognize the 4k files.

and burned 4k wasn't part of the 4k player spec. so getting that to work is very problematic. and basically no.

Your responses are greatly appreciated. Thanks too, Wenny, for your thoughts on DVDFab. I am in the free trial period and I have three disks left on the UHD Creator. I am running it on my Linux desktop using Wine database, and the converter has a really hard time trying to convert any files to UIHD format. I tried to put an 8 minute video into there and more than an hour later it had not even begun to encode it after I hit start.

I am wondering if I should fork out the money for a year's trial on it, especially considering it won't work in the free trial for what I need it to. Do you have DVDFab? Can you buirn UHD disks with it, please?

I was also looking at another encoding tool on Linux - Handbrake. I thought maybe using that and ImgBurn that I could maybe burn some UHD disks.

Finally, I have looked into moving the movie files into a flash or thumb drive. My Element Electronics TV sees the folders on it, but none of the movies and files I have inside there. I am wondering if my Dad's 4K TV would find them and be able to work with them?

UHD videos created by Handbrake (on Windows, at least) on a USB stick play fine on my 2019 55" LG UHD (aka sort-of "4k") TV here.

try putting the files directly on the usb drive. and not putting them in folder. that might help the tv to see it.

make sure you have the usb drive formatted to a file system it approves of. e.g fat 32/exfat or whatever works for your tv.

also make sure the videos use a codec your tv can read.
