  1. For years I've been trying to recover this video. It is a little over 700mb. I've tried to copy it and at about 77% it hangs.

I've tried everything and the only one that shows any hope is CDroller but it's trial-ware.

I would be happy just to get what I can and I've even tried (years ago) to do a bit copy to no avail.....

I believe the dvd was created by Ulead Video Studio...

    Suggestions?

  2. I would try two different softwares.
    ISOBuster.
It is trial ware with a limited use version after trial.
    If it fails try ISOPuzzle.
If you download ISOPuzzle from VideoHelp scroll down & get the ASPI.dll.
You need the copy this to the ISOPuzzle folder.
It will actually be the wnaspi32.dll.

You could try it with Total Commander and the Bad Copy/Non-Stop Copy plugin.
This will read as much data as possible and fill in the unrecoverable data.
I have used this many times to recover data/video from old burned DVD's.

This is an older 32bit tool/plugin, use it with the 32bit version of Total Commander.
You access the plugin via the Total Commander Network Neighborhood.

Never heard of ISOPuzzle....will check it out but ISOBuster didn't even "see" the VOB file when trying to run it. THE ONLY thing that has done something so far is VLC using it to convert/copy.....it got to the corrupted part and that was all I got.....it's something but I want the full vid if possible!
    Thanks!

After all these years and I've never seen Total Commander! Looks awesome!
You mention the Bad Copy/Non-Stop Copy plugin......I got Total Commander but didn't see the Bad Copy/Non-Stop Copy plugin.....what did I miss?

It's funny how I haven't worked on this since 2021 and there are now so many recovery apps I'm hoping for some luck this time!

    Thanks!

    Install (32bit) Total Commander
Get the Badcopy plugin, it is also named/referred to as Non-Stop Copy.
    For example here:
    https://totalcmd.net/plugring/badcopy_1_0_0_4.html

Click from within Total Commander on the wfx_plugin_badcopy_1.0.0.4.zip

Now you can access/process your devices via the Total Commander network/Bad Copy path:

  7. @ Damdvd,
Will Windows Explorer "see" the folders & files on the DVD ?
Very unusual for ISOBuster no to even "see" the files.
I remember way back I had problems with a Ulead DVD.
I got Ulead free with a drive & tried it & did not like it.
I also had a settop DVD recorder that could write an ODD format called "-VR".
Windows Explorer could not "see" it but ISOBuster could.

    @ The_Doman,
I also had not heard of Total Commander.
I have downloaded it & will be installing it.
I do not have a problem DVD right now but I will test on a good DVD.

    Dang....are you old like me?
I've downloaded both but the plugin has some bad links and one looks to be a DNS issue....will check later.

Can't wait until I have a few minutes to check them out and really appreciate the help and links (to the other replys also!)

Do you know if the "badcopy" has a 64 bit?

Also if you want a copy of DOS 3.1 I still have the disks

I still have the floppies for IBM DOS 4.0 in the box with manuals.
I have not used them in years .

    Old Veteran, probably yes
The bad copy plugin is indeed a bit difficult to find, but the given link works for me.
But i will attach the plugin zip file at this post.
As mentioned, there is no 64bit version, it only works in 32bit Total Commander.
But you not need 32bit Windows to run it, 32bit Total Commander and plugin works fine in 32 and 64 bit Windows.
