Gold plated Super Video cable generates a better image?

Hello.

Gold plated S Video cable is expensive, but would it have any better effect on VHS capture image generated with it or is it simply a myth?

I want to buy it, I only have common Svideos cables.

What really matters are individual screens for the Y and C wire to prevent Y<->C signal crosstalk plus an overall screen to protect against external electromagnetic interference.

Gold plating is well known technology for protecting against corrosion (usually due oxidation in harsh environment + some other types of corrosion) - it is commonly used in various connectors (like those in computers etc). Having gold plated connectors is fine however you need to be sure that all connectors (i.e. socket / receptacle and plug) are gold plated - if for example you socket is tin plated and your plug gold plated then gold will be quickly damaged (it will dissolve) in tin layer. Also gold layer is very thin (usually it is so thin that light can pass trough such layer), also frequently gold layer is faked by using instead gold thin layer of for example https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Titanium_aluminium_nitride?useskin=vector - it is common way to create appearance of gold without using gold.

Yes, regarding this cable, it was just a curiosity, but what I have to have are excellent VCRs

Right - from electrical perspective it is more important to use good quality cable with well defined impedance (75 Ohm for TV equipment) - gold plating is nice to have but doesn't magically improve anything.
