I'm testing FastFlix. I want to become a video file of around 900MB. My bitrate is set to 640x480 (512k).
The file I get this way is around 500MB. If I use a bitrate of 1500k (1280x720), I get around 1.1 to 1.4GB.
The picture isn't as good at 512k, but it is at 1500k. I don't think I can set it between 512k and 1500k. It might work, but I can't find it.
Can anyone help? I also think FastFlix is a very good converter, although it does take a while to convert

Never tried it but from looking at the 1st screenshot on the software page it should be the custom field to the far right of the bit rate setting.

Instead of bitrate, you should use the CRF setting. This gives you better quality than a fixed bitrate.
You didn't write about the resolution of your video; besides, the required bitrate also depends on the codec, i.e. x264 needs more than x265.
    For a 720p video (e.g. 1280x720) with x264 take CRF 23.
The lower the value, the higher the average bit rate, quality and file size.

    BTW
You could use clever Ffmpeg-GUI instead; It shows you the average bitrate during encoding.
So you can abort if the value is wrong, change the settings and start again.

ProWo. I often use Clever FFMpeg, thanks to your help. I consider it one of the best programs.
My question about FastFlix stems from my interest in other conversion programs to see if they are any good or not.
FastFlix seems good, but my file size is too large after conversion because I can't adjust the bitrate more precisely, as you said yourself, with Clever FFmpeg.
My original file is in mkv format and 1.5GB in size. I'd like to become a file between 800MB and 1GB. With FastFlix, if I choose CRF 512k (640x480) or 1500k (1280x720), I always get a file around 1.5GB after conversion. Only if I choose 512k (640x480) as the bitrate do I get a file of 412MB. It's feasible, but I would still like it to be a bit larger
I always convert using Ultrafast. The subtitles are never a problem; they're fine. I also use X265 HEVC as standard.

videoAI. How do I create a small test sample with FastFlix?

I have a solution to your problem. Forget FastFlix.

    Use:
Best-Video-Converter. This is what I use.
    ** the prog uses FFmpeg

keep your resolution, or lower it a bit [slower], Set encoding speed to [Fast], set all other settings to auto.
Not sure if HEVC is supported.

P.S. With The sample, I was referring to Clever-FFMpeg-GUI.

You must check the radiobutton before CRF to make it active.
Then set 23 or 24 here.
    CRF 512k (640x480) doesn't exists.

    I read the following bitrate choices at FastFlix: 150k 320x240 276k 640x360 512k 640x480 1500k 1280x720 2000k 1280x720 etc. It's a shame there is no choice between 512k and 1500k. I think I would then get a smaller connection.

    Forget the bitrate, use CRF!

    video ai. I'm confused.
Best-Video Converter ? Is it "SuperSimple Video Converter" you mean?
    or "ffmpeg"

Thanks for the golden tip to convert with CRF and a corresponding number (cf. 22 or 23, etc.). Now I get the requested result. I tested the mkv file of approximately 1.5 GB. Result to mp4 ultrafast: with CRF 22, file size 1197.211 KB; with CRF 26, file size 942.656 KB; with CRF 27, file size 838.657 KB; with CRF 28, file size 748.818 KB. For me, the quality is almost the same for all. So I'm going to choose the smallest size, i.e., CRF 27 or CRF 28. I've learned something new. Thank you very much, ProWo.

    Another tip:
Use veryfast or fast, the quality is better and the file size is smaller.
